Palatkik Posted October 5 Report Posted October 5 Steve [2025 Movie] Follows headteacher battling for his reform college's survival while managing his mental health. Concurrently, a troubled student navigates his violent tendencies and fragility, torn between his past and future prospects. Set in the mid-90s, Steve is a re-imagining of Max Porter's Sunday Times bestseller Shy. A 90 minute adrenaline rush, chaotic and violent, held just about together by a solid lead.
Palatkik Posted October 29 Report Posted October 29 Dracula: A Love Tale [2025 Movie] After his wife dies, a 15th century prince renounces God and becomes a vampire. Centuries later in 19th century London, he sees a woman resembling his late wife and pursues her, sealing his own fate. For those into the horror gothic genre, this is a visually stunning well produced addition to the Dracula series.
Palatkik Posted October 29 Report Posted October 29 The Lost Bus [2025 Movie] A wayward Californian school bus driver and a dedicated school teacher battle to save 22 children from a terrifying inferno. Mediocre yet passable disaster movie based on true events from 2018. The lead has done better but just about holds our attention through the story, excesses of CGI, screaming kids and a cursory jab at the climate change angle.
Palatkik Posted October 29 Report Posted October 29 How Are You? It's Alan (Partridge) [2025 TV] Partridge's life after returning to Norfolk from Saudi Arabia where he spent a year. His struggles to readjust to his hometown and reintegrate into society whilst covering the topic of mental health. The Partridge character has been around a long time and this is still hilarious, some very clever humor here with gags coming thick a fast. Worth seeing the six part series.
Palatkik Posted November 2 Report Posted November 2 The Woman in Cabin 10 [2025 Movie] A travel writer stumbles upon a gruesome secret while traveling aboard a luxury cruise ship. A strong cast in a thriller that seems to sink as soon as it sets sail. Contrived and cheesy script. A Raspberry award contender.
Palatkik Posted November 2 Report Posted November 2 Anemone [2025 Movie] In Northern England, a man heads out on a journey into the woods to reconnect with the estranged hermit brother with whom he shared a complicated past that was altered by life-changing events decades ago. Of interest as it features Daniel Day Lewis coming out of acting retirement in a film directed by his son. Some very strong performances in an otherwise slow psychological drama, surreal at times, worth seeing for the acting alone.
Palatkik Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 The Long Walk [2025 Movie] A group of teenage boys compete in an annual contest known as "The Long Walk," in which they must maintain a certain walking speed or get shot. Based on a Stephen King dystopian story, this simple premise is highly effective spread over two hours, following a long walk filled with occasional blood splattered graphics to maintain the pace. Parallels with today's modern day society don't go unnoticed. Worth seeing.
Palatkik Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 The History of Sound [2025 Movie] Two young men during World War I set out to record the lives, voices and music of their American countrymen using wax cylinders. Strong lead performances in an effective if restrained drama about illicit friendships and deceit from the era. The sounds are incidental and more of a melancholic echo.
Palatkik Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 A House of Dynamite [2025 Movie] When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond. From the same director of Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker, this movie about a nuclear war catastrophe is packed with the inner workings and acronyms of Washington, some fine performances done in a tense repetitive drama style without any special effects that may frustrate some with its ending.
