an anecdote:

I was looking at purchasing a boat earlier this year and with me, was my mate, wot runs an I.C.U. in 'straya.

When we got there we were 10 minutes too late and the new (old man) owner was trotting around the boat, pleased as punch, the salesperson gave me an assurance that if the sale fell through, he'd call me - never-mind.

My mate said, look at the old guy's ankles, which were swollen. He said, "... that boat will be on the market inside of a year."

I said "how do you know?"

He said "when we see ankles like that, we can put an end date on them."

Seems that, a little swelling can be treated, significant swelling is a tell. Even if hidden and denied.
