Russian MP warns Putin: We’re on the brink of social collapse -

A Russian MP has demanded that Vladimir Putin deliver a plan to end the war as he berated the Kremlin’s “ineffective leadership”.

In his lengthy tirade, Vyacheslav Markhayev listed corruption scandals, oligarchy, losses of the “most active and reproductively capable segment of the population” and Ukrainian drone strikes among the ills plaguing wartime Russia.

“The time of illusions is over. The country is on the brink of a social explosion and the blame for this will fall squarely on the entrenched ruling power,” said Markhayev, a deputy of the State Duma from Russia’s Communist Party.

“If the situation persists, social unrest and chaos will become more likely,” he lamented. “The West will inevitably exploit this to destroy the remnants of Russian statehood.”

The deputy joins a growing list of public figures who have broken from the official line to voice criticism of the authorities.

Late last month, Renat Suleymanov, another State Duma deputy from the same party, called for the “earliest possible end” to the war, saying the economy could not “withstand” its continuation.

In March, Ilya Remeslo, formerly a staunch Kremlin loyalist, suddenly turned against Putin with a scathing public denunciation which called the Russian president “a war criminal and a thief”, calling for him to be put on trial.

Putin hosts leaders of ASEAN, seeking to boost their business ties

Russia's President Vladimir Putin hosted leaders of the ASEAN on Wednesday as Russia seeks to bolster business and other ties with the nations of the regional bloc.

The two-day meeting, being held in Kazan, is set to consider ways to expand Russia’s “strategic partnership” with ASEAN nations that include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor and Vietnam, according to Kremlin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov.

The regional bloc has maintained relations with Moscow as a “dialogue partner” and engaged Russian officials in annual top-level meetings, he said. The summit in Kazan, on the Volga River, marks the 35th anniversary of Russia-ASEAN relations.

In a message greeting participants in a business forum held on the sidelines of the summit, Putin said he was confident that it will “create new opportunities for expanding mutually beneficial trade, investment, and industrial cooperation, while also strengthening direct dialogue between our business communities.”

A chemical engineer obviously familiar with refinery emegency procedures explained on CNN ( quote X) how stupidly the Russians reacted to a foreseeable desaster. Talking about longe range Ucraine drones covering 2400 km by flying over Russian territory over 12 hours undetected. :

"The fact that Russia, a country built on oil, can’t even protect its own refineries is proof that the country is completely screwed, run by utterly incompetent idiots, and the whole thing is about to collapse."

I may add that mighty and wonderful Russia seems to be unable to beat the much much smaller Ucraine.

t'were the leadership to change in Russia, it'd be decades before the damage done by the oligarchy, since the fall of the Soviet Union could be remedied.

But t'were Trump to go, 'murica as a democracy, could get back up off the canvas before the next bell rings.

The thing about democracies is that they're agile and nimble.
