Andrew Wakefield was the scientist who falsely claimed there was a link between the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine and autism.Key points about Wakefield and his discredited research:

In 1998, Wakefield and 12 colleagues published a paper in The Lancet suggesting the MMR vaccine may predispose children to behavioral regression and pervasive developmental disorder.

This paper received wide publicity and led to a sharp drop in MMR vaccination rates in the UK and Ireland due to parents' concerns about autism risk.

Subsequent epidemiological studies refuted any link between the MMR vaccine and autism.

In 2010, The Lancet fully retracted Wakefield's paper after an investigation found several elements were incorrect.

Wakefield was found to have multiple undeclared conflicts of interest, manipulated evidence, and broken ethical codes in his research.

His claims have been characterized as "perhaps the most damaging medical hoax of the last 100 years".

Wakefield's fraudulent research and continued promotion of the debunked vaccine-autism link has led to decreased vaccination rates and increased incidence of measles and mumps, resulting in deaths and injuries.

The scientific consensus, based on extensive research, is that there is no link between vaccines and autism.

Whilst one is libertarian enough, to allow that what adults do in the privacy of nowhere near me, is none of my business thankfully and that the method of transmission seems to be physical contact, so no threat to me, we did say that about AIDs.
