Coss Posted August 4, 2025 Report Posted August 4, 2025 https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2025/08/ai-site-perplexity-uses-stealth-tactics-to-flout-no-crawl-edicts-cloudflare-says/ ...Cloudflare isn’t the first to say that Perplexity violates the spirit if not the letter of the norm. Last year, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman told the Verge that stopping Perplexity—and two other AI engines from Microsoft and Anthropic—was a real pain in the ass.” Huffman went on to say: “We’ve had Microsoft, Anthropic, and Perplexity act as though all of the content on the internet is free for them to use. That’s their real position.”... Well we knew it was coming. So I wonder what the position is, for folk like me, who, though I am aware that all my online info is available, to Microsoft, Anthropic, and Perplexity, and others, have terabytes of off line data, that whilst is not on any internet connected site or platform, is never the less on storage connected to my LAN with consumer grade security. Not that any one is interested in my stuff, but the Ai seems to operate from the position of "all ur data is mine" so they'll take it if they can get it, I guess the data needs to be in an unconnected - no electricity state.
Old Hippie Posted August 10, 2025 Report Posted August 10, 2025 Part of the fear comes from the scenario of “the machine said it, so it is true…” Case in point, a lie Detector test…is it 100% fail proof..? No, not in my opinion. It is all too possible to manipulate a machine and or, the machine could just plain be wrong. So back to AI and the cloud facial recognition etc…is it 100% fail safe? Would you trust your life with it..? So now, say some Law enforcement group, government group etc is looking for a person, they scan all photos at their disposal and find your pic or mine etc and then say “that’s the guy!” If it? This is the bigger fear than say the government viewing my vast collection of DIY porn and simultaneously being impressed and jealous… I and many others have been secepticle of all this new technology. Sure it is great, makes life easier etc…until something goes wrong. The internet IS vulnerable to cyber attacks, banking, credit card companies etc are all deceptive to data breaches and then what? Sooner or later, there will be a massive hacking of power grids, pipelines, financial info etc…then what..?

A good question ! Any reporter worth his/her salt, should ask, (Putin, Zi etc) at the earliest opportunity, "What's your end game? Once you've destroyed Western civilisation, what are you going to do with all the people left over?" Of course if it really is criminals and terrorists that are doing it, the same question should be asked...
