Trump has not actually renamed the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts after himself, though he and his allies have clearly floated and pursued the idea. Several proposals and hints exist, but no change has taken legal effect so far.

Attempts to rename it

Republican lawmakers introduced a bill in 2025 called the “Make Entertainment Great Again Act” to change the name from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to the “Donald J. Trump Center for the Performing Arts.” That legislation was referred to the relevant House committee and, as of the latest reporting, has not advanced to become law.

There has also been a separate GOP-backed amendment to rename the Kennedy Center’s Opera House specifically for Melania Trump, branding it the “First Lady Melania Trump Opera House,” which passed a House Appropriations subcommittee but still requires full congressional approval...
