Hey, fellas, I just now noticed I hit a Board milestone – 700 posts! It has taken 25 years and a pacemaker!! Don’t I get some kind of achievement award, like a magic decoder-ring or something? Glad to still be here (or anywhere!).

Cheers!!

I remember up from Thermae thought you looked a bit like Robert Redford in those days, one of the nicer people on here

May I proudly present myself as owner of a pacemaker that I don´t need. What I need is the defibrillator function that comes with it.  What further qualifies my as foreman of the pacemaker people her is that I have been dead alrady on August the 8th 2011. Cardiac arrest which I only survived due to regularly consuming wine and beer. At least to my opinion.

No pace maker…those who have them, remember to keep up on the batteries…Think it was New Pethburi Pete(?) who had a battery go off and he fainted as a result, striking his head on the way down. He ended up ok, just a quick trip to the USA for a tune up. Not sure how he is doing these days. I always think of him when ever the topic of pace makers comes up…

I've also acquired a pacemaker. >>> I wonder how many of us have them?

Hell, we have three already – that’s about half the board membership! I’ve had mine almost a year now; it has the defibrillator option, although it hasn’t fired yet. I was told it will deliver a mule-kick of 40 joules at 800 volts that will knock your dick stiff - I inquired, really is it permanent? 🙂 True oldsters I’ve noticed often discuss their ills when together; their latest surgery, medications, aches’ and pains. Well, unfortunately, that’s where some of us here are in life… Better than the alternative! 🪦

Honorable Sir, you are a gentlemen and a scholar. I used to get that occasionally although he was a blonde and I was a redhead. It worked better in Asia than at home. Worked best with AC girls for some reason, you would think they would have treated me better - but they didn’t!

Most-Distinguished Sir, I recall you mentioning before that we met in that most holly of Temples – the Thermae (it ain’t changed much but the clientele has). If you could jog my memory I might recall the occasion.. Was this following a bar crawl with others, possibly down to 2 or 3 soul survivors? I think I can recall several occasions similar to this… Did perhaps you leave briefly, to fetch a GF nearby then return? Were you an ASFOer by any chance, my friend? Sorry if I sound like Jack Webb here – just trying to get the facts. You can PM me if you’d rather not mention names of the guilty should there be any…

Noble-Kind Sir, whatever the case I hope it was a great night for us both. I can think of so many stories that either began or ended at the Thermae (not all good). I’ve long attempted to write a real story about the place but it’s a tough call. With so many adventures where do you start, it’s hard to find an entry point to begin. The best detailed Thermae write-up I’ve ever read, done back in the day, was written by Stickman a longtime ago, but I never read it until last year when he re-posted it. It’s a classic critique that will take you back and it still rings as clear as a bell to this day.

Thanks again for the kind words my friend, I know we’ll meet again some sunny day…

To Vera Lynn & Thermae - Cheers!!

Me either. Still young and hansum according to MPIH. Out of curiosity for a friend, are the batteries of the lithium type? That would be a concern 😳

Dear Sir, pacemakers do not make a heart beat, they just care for a regular beating once there are irregularities. The worst being a total cardiac arrest resulting from an acceleration of the heartbeat up to 400 from maybe 65. Blood cannot transport oxygene any more at that speed and after 10 minutes you are dead. Unless you carry a defibrillator which can analyse the problem and after doublechecking send 1 or 2 electrical, usually painfull shocks. I had one such intervention at night 6 years ago and did not even wake up. Probably another advantage of drinking German Spätburgunder. Batteries running low send a beep-signal that will make you voluntarily see the hospital before you get a nervous breakdown. Batterie cannot be changed, you get a new pacemaker, the wiring remains in the heart .

Mr bust, pacemakers need lithium batteries because these have a very low selfdischarching tendency, thus surviving 8 to 12 years.

Pacemakers are the greatest invention in human history after Viagra. ( The latter of course I do not need, I swear. Just mentioning). Also nobody else uses it, although they sell tons every day.
