My return to Nana

Ah, at one time nearly a 2nd home...where the bars would play Bon Jovi It's My Life whenever we walked in.  Dance contests...weekly Friday meetups for dinner before the festivities began...glory days. 

But I haven't been back since I moved back to the States in 2008.  Would it be anything near the same?  Certainly I'm not, now married, retired and I'm... Kinda old.  Would I even fit in (both with the crowd and in the seats) 

A few months back I went to another haunt Soi Cowboy and it was a huge disappointment.  Nobody near naked (except for that one special bar just off Cowboy) elevated drink prices, fancy lighting but no energy. 

Well, I'm happy and relieved to report that NEP has still got it.  I only hit 3 gogos...the ones reported to be the best and they came through.  

Billboard...new for me.  Very flashy, well lit and a crazy amount of top tier talent. Mostly covered and no shows to speak of but the place to be to find some real beauties and beers at 170baht not bad at all.  More Asians than westerners at all of the bars. 

Spankys...this is the one.  Girls not to the level of Billboard but certainly passable. All topless, fun shows and great energy.  Only downside is lighting a bit too dark for my liking.  Beer 200 baht 

Then, an old favorite.. Angel Witch...and I actually spoke with a mamasan who remembered the old Nanapong Dance Contests.  Girls a level lower and a few years older.,.but well lit, good prices, topless, friendly girls and lots of shows.  And these were throwback shows, darts, ping pong balls, just like the good old dirty days.  Of course nothing will ever compare to the strap on DP shows circa 2000, but they are trying.  Beer 180 baht. 

Maybe I'm not too old after all.

That would be Crazy House. Run by the Bib I was once told which explained a lot of what went on was allowed.

I dropped in my last trip and only stayed for 1 overpriced beer. Almost impossible to get a seat unless you squeezed between all the Japanese and I noticed there seemed to be a shortage of Bic disposable razors at the time.

Would love a night of good old fashioned wholesome old school whore mongering…while married life is good, I do at times, long for the days of  yore…This March will mark my 40th anniversary of first trip to LOS and all that “came” (see what I did there?) with it and on it…Still remember my first encounter at the airport, all went as my cousins had said…I shall recount the full story at another time. The taxi ride to PatPong, my stay at the Suriwong…my first venture into a  GoGo…my first hook up…can still see her face…it was all so innocent. I was instantly hooked. Was 24 years, fresh out of a combat tour in El Salvador, and already making plans for retirement. My Airline job assured me frequent free of very low cost travel so “weekend trips” were frequent. Any 4 day weekend had me making the trek.I recall sitting in the Madrid Bar listening to all the “cross Roaders” and “Hobos” as they told me how much better the place had been in the old days, when PatPong Road was a dirt road….I shall prepare a longer post when the anniversary day arrives, and if I can, some old pictures. 32 years for me this year.

37 for me, 1989, 25 years old and working in South Korea, one of the guys I worked with lived in Bangkok and was (still is) married to a Thai lady convinced me to cash in my RnR return ticket to the UK for a flight to Bangkok with him. The rest, as they say, is history. It was 1997 when I made Thailand a home base.

34 years ago for me, I came with a friend who offered me a free ticket to accompany him up to Chiang Mai for his wedding… been hooked ever since. 

I’m 3 weeks into this 8 week trip now cruising around Isaan, with stops along the Mekong and a rest in Nakhon Phanom, then headed back to BKK on Saturday. 

Anyone else in town this weekend?

Itsyoudave, I found angelwhitch very original, the girls hadn't even left, 20nyears later they are the same! 

 

My first visit as a monger to Thailand was about 30 years ago and I was working there very soon afterwards.

 

Thermae has hardly changed, apart from the mandatory drink on arrival, it's pretty much the same and the talent is pretty good.

 

Cowboy could be bulldozed and I wouldn't miss it

My first book up was a complete disaster, a girl from Golden Bar outside Nana Hotel who didn't want to be in my room. Why she agreed no idea. 

 

Second night was far better. Lasting memories and friends oddly.
