on Iran againilly -

President Donald Trump has long presented himself as a genius negotiator who has mastered the “art of the deal.” But his latest comments about what he hopes to achieve in talks with Iran show how the most basic principles of deal-making elude him.

Fox News anchor Sean Hannity asked the president on Thursday about whether the U.S. was considering the options of seizing Iran’s estimated stockpile of 970 pounds of highly enriched uranium, which can be enriched slightly further to make nuclear bombs, by force or whether the U.S. would try to “entomb it” and make it impossible for Iran to access.

Trump’s surprise admission is exactly the kind of statement that Iranian negotiators  will take note of.

Trump first said that if the U.S. tried to seize the stockpile, it would take “a week and a half” to extract using a ground operation. That is likely an underestimate; nuclear experts say such an operation would take weeks, and that’s assuming it goes smoothly.

But what Trump said next was a surprise.

“I don’t think it’s necessary [to get the uranium], except from a public relations standpoint,” the president said. “I think it’s important for the fake news that we get it.”

He added, “I’m the one that said we’re going to get it, and we’re going to get it. We have our eye on it.”

In just a handful of words — “I don’t think it’s necessary” — Trump appeared to abandon a position that has been central to his entire premise for this disastrous war. And he instantly undermined his insistence on it as a key term of a peace deal with Iran.  ... LINK

Coss Comment:

Now Trump's raison d'être is dead,

his "Bully opponent, Bully opponent, Bully opponent, opponent give up" has failed.

He keeps asking "why haven't they surrendered?".

He is at a loss, everyone sees his failure and ineffective-ness, the phrase "rats deserting a sinking ship" can be amended to "rats deserting a failing political movement"

The Global Chess Game will continue with China, Europe, Brazil, Russia etc etc  becoming our new world order.

Hegseth will keep showing Trump video of things exploding and Trump will take this as his success, and like a new Vegan, he'll keep telling us this.

I'm now feeling more comfortable, that I've put my eggs in the basket that is the Lao P.D.R. ~ vassal state of Chyeena!

Let me respond…Iran should NOT be allowed to have a nuclear weapon…no other country either for that matter…frankly, it bothers me any country has them. So I get the idea of stopping this. That said, fuck the dump. There were/are, better ways to go about this and stop them…not sure if Iran was playing along, doubtful maybe, but maybe up to the world and NOT the dump to decide..? Who knows..?

Couldn't agree more. And the irony is only one country has ever used them which IMHO should disqualify them from having them ever again.

As for who is fucked up enough to use one? I’d say Iran, maybe Pakistan..? Israel if they were being over run aka “the Masada Principle…” I doubt Russia or China or the USA even with this asshole in power, would ever use one unless someone used one on us…I’d love Iran to say “…we will stop when you release the Epstein files…”

It seems to me, that the release of any truly damaging "Donald did this and Donald did that", files are being protected,  less for his sake and more for the survival of the Republican Party writ large. For having had Donald's back.

I'm seeing commentary that is along the lines of:

Given the huge amounts of Grift on public display by Trump, his family and anyone associated with him, it all has the appearance of "Grab everything you can, on the way out the door".

The biggest pre-Trump figure who symbolised grift and self-dealing,  William McKinley’s Gilded Age-era political ecosystem, though not McKinley alone; that period was widely marked by corporate capture, bribery, and favouritism.

Q for 'Americans: Is Trump bigger than McKinley?

US President Donald Trump says he is holding off on a planned military strike on Iran because “serious negotiations” are underway. LINK

Trump’s announcement, in a social media post on Monday (local time), came as he had threatened the clock was ticking for Iran to strike a deal or fighting would renew after a fragile ceasefire.

The president did not offer details about the attack that he said was planned for Tuesday, but said but he instructed the US military “to be prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached”....
