Bangkok tightens security in tourist hubs popular with Israelis

Thailand has beefed up security in certain tourist destinations popular among Israeli visitors following the United States–Iran strikes on Israel that began on Saturday.

Security authorities in the northern province of Mae Hong Son, where about 3,000–4,000 Israelis are currently staying in Pai district, visited the area today to inspect the enforcement of security measures.

Col Phumrat Dusadee, deputy director of internal security for the province, and other officials visited the Chabad House, located behind the Pai Police Station.

Security personnel have already been deployed to maintain order, Phumrat said.

Local residents have been asked to closely monitor the situation and report any suspicious movements to officials to help prevent possible attacks.

As the summer season approaches, many Israeli visitors typically travel to beach destinations in southern Thailand.

Security measures have also been increased in other areas crowded with foreign tourists, as well as at US facilities in Chiang Mai, including the US Consulate General and US-branded hotel chains.

Earlier, Israel’s National Security Council issued a warning advising its citizens overseas to exercise heightened caution, noting that based on past experience, there is a possibility Iran could step up efforts to target Israeli and Jewish interests abroad.
