Well i tell anyone who listens about the days of 56 THB to the USD during the Asian crash and that was neigh on 30 years ago now

Yeah, I remember it well. I read an article in the LA Times Sunday travel section back in mid 97 that went on about what a fantastic deal it was to visit Thailand at the time. I recall you could get a room at the Bangkok Oriental for only $300 bucks a night. That article alone was what led me to book my first visit that year, mid-December where I opted for the Nana hotel rather than the Oriental… Spent about 3-weeks there on that first trip to BKK/Pattaya where I must have had the time of my life as I could not wait to return after getting back. However, I never saw that 56 Baht to the dollar, as when I arrived it had drifted down to about 51/52 or so as I recall. I think a Carlsberg at the time was maybe 70B in the go-go’s.

The Dynasty Inn was another longtime favorite (also the one in Pattaya) where I last stayed there in December 2023, the place hasn’t changed a bit in all those years that I could tell. Always remember to request a room in the rear – NEVER the front facing the street where they will almost surely place you by default! On the other hand the Nana always had an included BIG breakfast that was great if you could get down there early enough to take advantage of it – 7am at the very latest! I missed it about half the time… I don’t think I’ve stayed at the Nana for maybe 20 years. Not likely that I will ever return, but if I do I would not stay or likely even visit the Nana area at all. Been there done that to excess long ago. Believe it or not the place hasn’t changed very much in the past 30 years, overall. Yes, there is a bigger sign at the plaza now along with Las Vegas class lighting and much needed roof, but more the same than different just more bells and whistles while the quality of the girls has slipped some since its heyday IMHO.
