Old Hippie Posted June 10 Report Posted June 10 So apparently a few more places are hyping up Durian, which the Mrs and I love. We have tried it everywhere and come to the following conclusions, it’s all good and it all depends which one you get, doesn’t matter the type or where it was grown etc…all pretty much the same. She did express an interest in trying the top end 1 just once…insanely priced at 1000THB/KG…sometimes more…it would all be based on faith in the seller as there is basically no way to tell by looking at it in a shell…1000/kg is still cheaper than we pay for the average fresh stuff in the USA…which we won’t buy there because it is too expensive, yet here, for some reason, it is ok..? Anyway, yesterday took us to Si Saket in search of “Durian pu Khao Phai” or Volcano durian…nice drive, great lunch, best roasted chicken I’ve had, maybe ever, and lots of durian all over, apparently after all these years of never having heard of “durian pu-Khao-fai”, it is all the rage! Durian festival in effect and now Surin is jumping on the band wagon…prices cheaper than ever, yesterday we paid 75ThB/kg for one type and 120THB/kg for “premium…both very good…I’m getting good at cutting it. Sadly, it is apparently unsafe to mix durian and alcohol so no beer today…a few photos from a Surin durian salesman…nice guy invited us out to see the orchard, apparently there is some tv crew coming to do a segment on them. This is the season, and we are enjoying it…I can skip a beer or 2… 1
Coss Posted June 10 Report Posted June 10 Yum ...as to alcohol and Durian, both 2nd and 3rd wife have prevented me from consuming both together, on pain of physical violence, so yes it is unsafe, to consume both... What Ai says LINK _____
