What kind of dog…

…is this..? We are thinking a mixed breed, but no idea of what…Anyway, this is my new dog Jasmine…she was a stray someone left in front of our house a few months back, Mother in law has been watching her for us. We(I)named her Jasmine…took her awhile to warm up to us, but she is coming around. Tons of street dogs up here…the problem is really getting out of hand. A few years back, there was a government program for free spaying and neutering but apparently that is no more, so everyone just drops off their puppies or dogs wherever. My mother in law is known for feeding them, so we suspect someone dropped Jasmine off hoping she’d be cared for. She was a little puppy when we got her, now getting big and jumpy! Got he spayed yesterday, cost about 3500ThB. We will miss her when we leave on Saturday…back in October for 2 months or so…

Looks like a real "mix" to me - ears and coat of a Shitzu, eyes of a Poodle, length of something like a Whippet?  

Same same Laos, they're all "every" breed.

Up here in Isan people drop off unwanted dogs at the Wat and the monks care for them. We now have two Wat dogs, mixed breed but very good dogs. We had pure breds before. A poodle and a Serbian husky and they both died of cancer. They were good dogs but I think the mixed breeds are more hearty.

Vets prefer mixed breeds, they are more hearty and less prone to genetic disorders.

I had a couple of Groodles. Paid $600 a piece which included all their shots plus airfare. They came from another state. They were what was known as F1s meaning bread with pure breeds in this case a Standard Poodle and Golden Retriever. Once they start getting bred down that's when they start having issues with their health. Groodles these days, $6-8,000.00

Out local Wat has had enough, it has signs up warning of a 40k baht fine for those dumping dogs there

We’re in Surin, where are you? I forgot… but same story here, the local Wat has had to tell people “…don’t leave your dogs here! My mother in law was going to bring it to a temple she knows, but we said keep it. Niece used to say “my dog” when it was young and cute…now not so much. Funny is, this dog will either come play out totally ignore you. Until you show attention to the other dog, then she is all over trying to be queen bee…really sweet is she hides food, but later shares it with the other 2 dogs…

     Mixed dogs are supposedly more sturdy as the stronger genes tend to come out more.I read something years back about a lot of “pure breeds” being inbred, and thus the defect rate was high. Read something about collies being bred for their pointed noses, to a point that they had induced frontal lobe damage into a large part of the breed.
