  1. Replublicans have been resorting to desperate measures to try to win elections, but the people are getting wiser to their unfair tactics. They have further to fall in my opinion.

Maybe... But it's obviously not been working and you will still have to show me the voter fraud. 'Cause I cant find it in any verifiable source. Dems however....

  2. I didn't mention proof. This is politics, not technics.

Others here did. I dont see it. And as the guy that gets sent to kill and die by the people that are elected, I have a bigger stake in voting than most people.

    But you did say:

This issue is more about the Replublicans rigging an election than about IDs.

Yet when I look at it (and I bet if you do too, you will see...) more dems have been flat out convicted of VF than there are reps that have even been charged with it in the past decade. BTW if reps were so big on VF.... would they not have won a lot more...? reps are getting killed in elections... Just like dems did for about 10 years in the 80s.

  3. I don't believe voter fraud by people not having a photo ID is a significant problem, although there have been few. Voter supression using photo id requirement is more of a problem. In 2011, more than 100 Democratic members of Congress urged the Department of Justice to oppose a legislation to impose restrictive photo ID requirements that has been prepared by the conservative organization ALEC , arguing that it "has the potential to block millions of eligible American voters, and thus suppress the right to vote."

That really sounds more like a political move than a real argument. Perhaps in response to the mass of democrat "favored" convictions.

I am still waiting for this "proof" that keeps getting mentioned. Hell, Canada does it...!

  4. Have you been listening to the news? Where have you been? In the Afgan Mountains? That's what all the commotion is about wrt ids. Did you read my post above?

"The premise is that the poor and the old are more likely to be Democrats and are more likely not to have an ID. So having an ID requirement to vote would be an advantage to Republicans in winning an election because more Democrates will be turned away than Republicans for not having an ID. "

Yes to all. But I don't...

    1) See how you get this is a republican only issue. Again I bring you ACORN. They are up to I think 50 convictions of voter fraud.

    Link 1

    Link 2

    2) Do not agree with you that requiring ID's makes people not vote. Nor have I seen any credible evidence proving it does. Look up voter id rules in other countries.

  5. The result of the ID laws, which has been proven, is that it reduced the number of people who would have actually voted.

    Show me this proof.

My impression is that this voter id issue is a Repulican move to unfairly exclude Dems from voting. It's not really about ids -- most people have ids.

Like above, show me how you found this impression. ACORN, for example, was a 100% dem "movement."

  6. There are citizens who are and have been voters with no valid picture ID. They are registered as voters, but don't drive, purchase assault weapons, or travel to places that require an ID. Some could be old folks in a small town that everybody knows or the poor.

Everyone has to register to vote. ID is a must there. So they have one of some kind.

There are also people (lots!) that buy guns with out any id at all. Legally. I dont agree with that either.

And Voting is way more important... and gets way more people killed.

  7. The premise is that the poor and the old are more likely to be Democrats and are more likely not to have an ID. So having an ID requirement to vote would be an advantage to Republicans in winning an election because more Democrates will be turned away than Republicans for not having an ID.

As a member of the military and getting old, I totally believe you should have an ID to vote. Voting is more powerful than buying a drink or driving a car or a gun. And i believe you should have ID to do all four of them.

  8. To say that a homeless man with no debt and $10 in his pocket is richer than 70% of Americans is absurd. He would be considered poor if he has no income. For a single person, the poverty threshold is about $11,000 per yr income.

You're missing the point. 70% or so of Americans have negative net worth. They owe more, may a lot more!, than they have. So if you play the numbers game like the stats Cav posted, you have to look at it from this perspective.

  9. #1 According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 146 million Americans are either “poor†or “low incomeâ€.

#2 According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 57 percent of all American children live in a home that is either “poor†or “low incomeâ€.

#3 Back in 2007, about 28 percent of all working families were considered to be among “the working poorâ€. Today, that number is up to 32 percent even though our politicians tell us that the economy is supposedly recovering...

One thing to remember is that if you have NO DEBT and $10 in your pocket.... You are richer than like 70% of all Americans.

  10. I viewed the local VA Hospital.

Changed all of the toilet flushers to automatic.

All the sink faucets to automatic. Some sort of light sensor.

All of the bathrooms already had handicapped sinks and toilets.

The new ones might be good. But the old ones were not old as the whole building had been rehabed not long before.

    The "different budget" syndrome.

FYI, there is a big push for that in healthcare. It has a lot to do with the transmission of desease. So many if not all hospitals in the states are going to essentially "touch free" bathrooms and antiseptic finishes. I saw an impressive study on its effectiveness a few years ago.

  11. Another question is "If a tree falls in the woods, is it heard?"

How far a RFID transmitter broadcasts is not much concern.

What is of concern is how far away a receiver can be to pick up the signal.

I would consider that the same thing.

  12. "RFID tags are viewed with concern by privacy advocates and civil libertarians, who fear that they could be used for government surveillance as well as identity verification. Some also warn that RFID-enhanced documents are vulnerable to RFID hackers, who can intercept the signals and clone the chips for their own illicit use.

In response to these worries, the state of New York is mailing each one with a protective storage sleeve that prevents transmission, commented DMV spokesman Ken Brown, in a recent article in Newsday. Brown added that the only personal information contained in the tag is a number that would be meaningless except to Homeland Security agents."

    LINK

Ok, thanks, but the question was, how far away does this RFID thing broadcast too?

  13. The parents of a ten year old are outraged that their child was strip searched so that a teacher could search for $20 bill that was missing and that the schooled ‘believed’ fifth-grader Justin Cox had stolen:

    From CBS Charlotte:

The parents of a 10-year old Union elementary school student have filed a complaint against the school for strip-searching their son to find an allegedly stolen $20 bill.

In a complaint filed against assistant principal Teresa Holmes on Dec. 6, the family of Clinton, N.C., fifth-grader Justin Cox allege their son was ordered to remove his socks, shoes, pants and shirt so the principal could conduct a manual search for a $20 bill that was inevitably found in the cafeteria.

The Sampson County school in North Carolina ‘regretted’ the search but maintained it had the right to do so. Cox’s mother objected to the way the search was conducted, as well as the fact that she hadn’t been notified about the search, but only learned about it from her ‘upset’ son.

In 2009, the Supreme Court ruled that a 13 year old student’s rights were violated when the school strip searched her for allegedly-concealed medication it ultimately did not find.

However, earlier this year, the Supreme Court also ruled in favor of strip searches for ‘minor offenses,’ including traffic stops.

Correction: "...earlier this year, the Supreme Court also ruled in favor of strip searches for ‘minor offenses,’ including traffic stops when the person is arrested and taken to jail. "

U.S. Prosperity Slides in Index That Ranks Norway No. 1

    By Simon Kennedy - Oct 29, 2012

The U.S. slid from the top ten most prosperous nations for the first time in a league table which ranked three Scandinavian nations the best for wealth and wellbeing.

The U.S. fell to 12th position from 10th in the Legatum Institute’s annual prosperity index amid increased doubts about the health of its economy and ability of politicians. Norway, Denmark and Sweden were declared the most prosperous in the index, published in London today.

With the presidential election just a week away, the research group said the standing of the U.S. economy has deteriorated to beneath that of 19 rivals. The report also showed that respect for the government has fallen, fewer Americans perceive working hard gets you ahead, while companies face higher startup costs and the export of high-technology products is dropping.

That's a pretty stupid index then.

  15. I don't know one person who doesn't pay taxes

and some of the poorest pay a higher percentage in taxes

    then Willard does!

The guy who lives under the bridge

comes out and buys sodas, cigarettes and booze.........

His tax rate on these items is higher then what Romney pays

    in taxes. Figure it out.

I bet you know a stack of people that do not pay INCOME tax.
