changnoi
I'm off to Manila on monday - first trip. Any recommendations for a hotel in Ermita ? My price is 10 - 20 usd. Fan Ok, need fridge not tv, decent security and of course guest friendly. Oh, and a window.
chuckwoww
Last time I was there about 3 years ago and hotels in that price range (under 2000 pesos) were hard to find. Not sure what the Royal Palm charges now. The Tower used to be my favorite but they fixed it up. You could try the Swagman or Mabini Mansions. Have a good trip! changnoi
Cheers Chuck, Yes, I gather that my budget may be optimistic. We'll see.
thai3
You could check out the Dakota mansions (if still there)opp the pan pacific as it's the nana hotel in the area. Stayed at the royal palm and the pan pacific. Dakota is worn but cheap, could stay there and use facilities at the pan pacific-peter
changnoi
Thanks Peter, but if you mean http://www.manila-hotel-travel.com/dakota.htm then it's not in my price range.
thai3
Wow they certainly did that place up, it was about $20 when I stayed there. That swagman hotel used to run a bus to angeles.-peter

check_bin_krap
I stayed at Southern Comfort hotel near Ermita. Its 16 yrs ago though, don't know if that hotel exists still. I can recommend it, 24 hrs open bar + room service. And cheap. My friend did moan about the stairs after he and our girls had to drag me up them, after I passed out due to a long drinking session. Cheers!
changnoi
@Singhaman Finding a cheaper hotel is not easy. I am only prepared to rough it so far... Last night stayed at the Palm Plaza 32usd and not very nice. Moved to the Frendy @1300PHP. It will do, but the bargains are not in the accommodation. I suppose if I drink enough beer... chuckwoww
There used to be loads of good deals in the Ermita area. When I first stayed at Mabini Mansions it was 300 pesos a night for TV, fridge, stove the lot. There was a charge for extra pillows though. Limit of five. Tower was only 200 and every room had its own rat. Congress was even cheaper and great for short time if you didn't mind sharing the bathroom with a bunch of strangers. The whole place went downhill when the go-go bars got shut down I'm afraid. Still a good place for changing money and getting mugged.
