Right. And in Malay, too, it's "vanita" for "woman" (in the higher language at least; common language is "parampuan"). There's also a women's mag of the same name.

Malay/Indon language:

Wanita = lady

Perempuan = lady (female)

Gadis = lady (younger)

I suppose this is called VANITY in most parts of the world. No Thai woman can pass a reflecting surface without having a deep look into it, re-adjusting her hair etc. Not that I'm complaining.
