Guest
I see that UBC is now offering a cable modem service for Internet connection. Anyone tried it and got some experience of it?
Brink15
Wowzer, About cable modems in general or specifically UBCs cable modem service?
Guest
Brink, Thanks for reply. I'm interested specifically in the UBC service which is being done with www.asianet.co.th in Bangkok and metropolitan area.
Guest
I think UBC is not offering any cable modems. However, the asianet service is likely to be a TA company, who is one of the big UBC shareholders and owns the cable network in (greater) Bangkok. Service is available in a limited number if area's. whosyourdaddy
interesting that the IP is using Asia telecom for the click TA and the TOT for another interenet service.
OldAsiaHand
TA was indeed offering a cable modem service using the UBC system for a while. They tell me now, however, that the service has been shut down for lack of demand (entirely understandable, since they were charging users for the size of the data stream they accessed, not by time, and an ordinary monthly bill could easily have reached B10,000 without much effort). TA now says they are planning to have a ADSL service available soon --- which will be interesting to see since TA's system is fiber optics, not copper wire, and fiber optics can't be used for ADSL. Welcome to Thailand.
