I know nothing about pepper sprays etc.

What are the advantages etc between fog and jet?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A jet comes out as a stream same as from a water pistol.

A fog comes out in a mist same as hairspray.

I personally think that fog is better in that the area is covered with spray, you can't miss, particularily good if there are more than one person attacking you.

A jet is more precise, but you have to hit the specific target, doesn't piss off everyone near you as only the person you are spraying gets hit. The fumes will affect people in a minute or so.

If you miss the eyes it will run down the face but not necessarily blind the person or stop them.

The mist gets breathed in affects the throat nasal passage and will get in the eyes. All these areas will swell up and feel as if they are burning. it does hurt, a lot!!!!!

So basically use a jet in an area with a lot of people and only one perp and hope to get the eyes etc..

Use a fog if there is space around you and the only recipient close enough to be affected is the perp or perps.

Crossing Sukhumvit or any of its Soi's is NEVER, EVER safe! Look all ways, look again, then say a quick "hail, Mary" (Catholic or not!), look yet again for motorbikes, then cross with briskness! smile.gif" border="0

Seriously, eliminate the pickpocket threat by carrying what is valuable in front, zippered or velcro'ed (preferred) pockets. To get anything out, you have to make a RIPPING noise, and it is easier to constantly feel your wallet on your leg than it is on your ass. Plus, only carry your passport when you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY HAVE TO... carry a photocopy at all times instead. So, that leaves you with only one pocket to watch (and FEEL).

As with anywhere, it is best to walk like you know where you are going, even if you don't (and that's fun in BKK, too!). That goes for any city... alertness and confidence weeds you out of the "easily taken" category.

But to simply answer your question: YES, you are going to be remarkably safe, day or night, or early-morning hours. Dark alleys, empty streets, or passing the congregations of street-eaters... I find it enjoyable to know how different it is there.

It's one of the reasons why BKK is so much worth the long ride. smile.gif" border="0
