Guest
Much more than just a "comedy"...a magical realist masterpiece. It's an adaptation of a novel written by the director (Wisit Sasanatieng--the genius behind "Tears of the Black Tiger")'s wife, a quite good novel in its own right (not translated into English). Having both read the novel and seen the movie multiple times (in reverse order), and having actually subtitled the movie in English so I could show it to students here in the US (I've since acquired an officially subtitled DVD from the director, which puts my efforts to shame, haha), I have to say that this movie is one of those cases of the movie actually being "better than the novel"...Wisit knew exactly what to take out of the novel and what to leave, for maximum effect... Anyway, a brilliant piece of work it is...on so many levels.
ghostdog
I have seen this movie and liked it as a movie. Very wonderful surrealism. However, as one who has gone through both Paiboon's Thai For Beginners and Intermediate book, it was depressing to see how little I understood the spoken Thai.
