chuckwoww
My understanding is that "Empower Foundation" was founded by a Thai woman and is know for it's non-judgmental approach completely devoid of any religious propaganda. Girls are not told they are "Bad" and all educational and job training classes are free. The founder achieved some local notoriety and the enmity of local powers when she picketed the Worldwide AIDS Conference held in Bangkok in 2004, protesting the non inclusion of issues regarding prostitutes and health care. Pornpit Pakmai. Nice girl. I knew her when she was working in the Night Bazar Bars, Chiang Mai ( long gone alas). Late 80s. It started as a bunch of bargirls chatting but there were some heavy duty farang feminists involved....at least in the beginning. They walked around bugging punters with pamphlets. There were only one or two bars on Loi Kroh at the time....Marin and Lindas....more followed.
Flashermac
Empower was the one that made a handbook for the girls - including a section of sample letters on how to write "sick buffalo" letters to get money out of Farang "boyfriends"!
