Factory burns just after recovering from flood

A fire gutted Toshiba Consumer Products (Thailand) Co's factory in Pathum Thani province yesterday.

The factory, which was badly hit by last year's flooding, resumed production only this month.

Four fire trucks from tambon Bangkadi municipality attended the blaze at the factory, which makes washing machines, inside Bangkadi Industrial Park in Muang district.

Firefighters fought a losing battle against the blaze, which started at a control room on the second floor.

Materials for producing washing machines in the room fed the flames. Thick, black smoke made it hard for firefighters to enter the room.

Many fire engines were mobilised from nearby areas.

The factory was yesterday declared off-limits. There were no reports of injuries.

The cause of the blaze was being investigated and the cost of the damage was estimated at tens of millions of baht.
