  1. Saudi Arabia didn't officially ban slavery until the early 1960s. I remember it in the news when JFK was president.

But unofficially, slavery is very much practiced in Saudi Arabia.

Problem is most of the laws followed there are oral so a spokesman can solemnly announce at the UN that a law has outlawed slavery.

  2. I don't believe an economic migrant would spend the amounts paid to a trafficker and secondly undertake the, clearly life - threatening trip in a rubber boat to get to the EU. Only a desperate refugee would take such risks to escape a clearly dangerous situation.

  3. It's inevitable that solar, wind or other similar energy will be developed. I guess people in the middle east will return to time honored occupations like robbing and kidnapping religious pilgrims on their way to haj.

  4. Very hard to encourage women's rights in a culture that is lacking elementary rule of law. In most western countries nobody is above the rule of the law, wereas in tribal Muslim lands only the very poor and unconnected are subject to it. Only the Muslim religion as opposed to encouraging many beliefs to exist isn't healthy either. In western countries religion evolved over the centuries but it is blasphemous to question or change Islam.

  5. El Al is Israel's national airline so they seem to respect ultra-orthodox passengers' demands. El Al doesn't fly on the Jewish Sabbath and only serves kosher food onboard.

Many other airlines fly to the Jewish state, but I don't believe they tolerate this type of behavior. I bet if this stunt was tried on United, the passengers would have found themselves off the plane or placed under arrest.

  6. What is really a pain in the ass is on long haul flights are children sitting behind you that can't seem be able to stop kicking the seat in front of them, with you sitting there. I have to confess that I accidently dropped the contents of a cold drink over their once. Since the flight was full, they unfortunately couldn't move from their soaked seat to a dry one. I apologized of course, but the kicking stopped and the child and parents both jumped to wary attention whenever I had to get up and pass their seats.
