Saudi Arabia didn't officially ban slavery until the early 1960s. I remember it in the news when JFK was president.

But unofficially, slavery is very much practiced in Saudi Arabia.

Problem is most of the laws followed there are oral so a spokesman can solemnly announce at the UN that a law has outlawed slavery.

I don't believe an economic migrant would spend the amounts paid to a trafficker and secondly undertake the, clearly life - threatening trip in a rubber boat to get to the EU. Only a desperate refugee would take such risks to escape a clearly dangerous situation.

Congressional salaries, compared to the cost of getting elected, leads one to believe that congressmen are not working to receive salaries, but something else.

Would be nice if members of congress AND their staff had the same insurance plans as everyone else. But frankly speaking, by tweeking the provider network their insurance plans could turn into gold-plated insurance plans.

What this should teach us is that one should think twice before deciding to carry and/or keep a weapon whether it is a handgun or a samurai sword. In times of conflict one cannot control how one will react and with the addition of hot emotion the chance of deadly force being used cannot be controlled.

Somber reading indeed, what is worse is governments will not relinquish power once it's in hand. A pity really, America was a great country.

With crime rates going down, it becomes very challenging to keep feeding the private prison industry with inmates. One way to do so is to place more laws on the books.

This was a state of Virginia action. The state of Virginia Alcohol Control Division.
