  1. One of the big differences that has been pointed out between nowadays and the 1930s depression is that 70 years ago, the US was still largely a nation of farmers. People lost their job in the city, but they could still go back and live with mom and dad on the farm. Not many farms to go to today.

True but hundreds of jobs. When I read that item the only thing that came to my mind was "loser." I am a firm believer through experience that the world is what you make of it. But when it is "easier to kill yourself than to pick something up".... well... something else is wrong and most likely it is YOU!

  2. This is f*cking scary. It can happen to any of us...

Im sorry but I would be working at McDs before that happens or especially when it did! I think that article just underscores the fact that there are many jobs some Americans just will not do because doing nothing is easier. I read that and I call her a quitter. This point I found telling...

"I was spinning out of control," she says. "I was starting to lose my wits. It's very surreal being at a level of depression where it's easier to think about suicide and dying than it is to bend over and pick something up you're stepping over. It was getting bad enough that my friends started looking at me, going, 'You better get out of here.'
  3. He has now given the majority opinion on the most important case in the last 40 years....

    Guess you forgot this one......

    and this one

I doubt if Congress will force ex-pats to buy health insurance.

You did not read it then. If you are a US Citizen, you have to buy it or pay the fine. I know some expats in BKK and several other places, card carrying Republicans and Democrats and Libertarians like me, where the $100 to $500 a month has them seriously worried. But I bet you never thought about it that way, did you?

  4. If a tax is due on April 15, 2012 - would you questioned

why you must pay some of the tax at the end of the first week

of January in the year 2011?

Our Founding Fathers probably would consider that tax illegal

based on the fact the tax is 'due' on April 15, 2012

    and not collectable till then.

Huh? Explain what it is again...? (Or really for the first time.)

  5. The tax I find highly questionable is the 'employee withholding tax' employees/employers

pay each week. Surprisingly nobody questions this practice.

I consider this tax practice illegal.

Explain what it is. And why you think it is illegal.

  6. In Arizona You don't need to ride a motorcycle without a helmet and if the Republicans get their way, you might be able to in the near future drive a car without an airbag or seat belt.

    Huh? BKT's drinking again.....

  7. I suspect that why Zimmerman 'walked' was probably based upon

a wide range of extra police 'powers' the police have today.

At the so called famous 'OK Corral' gunfight of the old Wild West, some of

the lawmen who were involved were arrested and tried in a court of law.

As for Zimmerman: If he lived in the Wild West - he probably would have been arrested.

A coroner's inquest would have beeen held and the case probably would

    go to the Grand Jury.

    Huh?

That does not even makes sense.

  8. Good old American journalism, integrity at it's best. :(

NBC to do ‘internal investigation’ on Zimmerman segment

Yea. Someone at NBC is going to get fired for sure. And this backs up my various replies about how there is no right or left wing mass conspiracy in the total of US news orgs. They all police themselves and love catching the other guys fucking up.

  9. another fair point.

in the past my doctors were worried about the blood test results indicating problems with my liver.

when asked searching questions about my drinking habits,i told small untruths to try and put them off the scent.

no liver tests for a long time now and while i like a drink i don't worry about things.

if anything does happen to me concerning my health i hope it's late June after i have returned from LOS.

Ok that's an interesting thing to say which prompts a question. But maybe this is one for another thread on that topic.

  10. blood tests............ :banghead:

because of my blood disorder being diagnosed in 1999 i had blood tests twice a week up until 2010 and a monthly procedure of blood-letting to help with my treatment.

the treatment was painful to me,maybe a low pain threshold? and it used to take me a good 24 hours to recover from the treatment.

but after many years i seem to have got over the problem as i have been discharged from any treatment since 2010.

but it meant i had to take precaution when flying, surgical socks and certain drugs but even that did'nt stop me from suffering from 2 DVT's and a PE.

now i am limited to the amount of physical things i can do,but i've just got used to taking things easy when i need to.

that's why i like a Lady on top and i can just lie back and enjoy....

i'm sure something concerning my spleen would have been found out in that time period.

Not necessarily. The test I was referring to is simply looking for cells from a spleen. No reason to do it at all unless the practitioner is suspicious you dont have one. And no reason to do that unless you are unconscious in an emergency room or we just dont trust your medical history. (distrust of stated medical history is why we ran it on everyone that showed up in trials) So unless you specifically asked for one, I highly doubt you were ever given that test.

  11. as i say i have no idea of the explanation about the spleen?.

scans and the suchlike have never found it and i KNOW i have never had it removed.

the case of my nipple ring was in a CT scanner, not an MRI scanner.

the MRI scans were before a drunken day out when a few of us decided to have the painful procedure,i never knew it would be so painful and the alcohol did'nt mask the pain.

I would be willing to bet you have it. If you really want to know a blood test will show you. Not being able to visualize it is no big deal. All those medical charts of the body are basically averages. I have seen aortas with as few as two branches and as many as 5 in my days. Avg is three so that is what tends to be on the charts. We always test for removed or not working ones them to test subjects in our trials as lack of one can be potentially dangerous depending on the vaccine being utilized.

  12. If you did not have a spleen you would really know it as your ability to fight off infections like phenomena would be greatly reduced. As I recall the literature, those who have had it removed have almost a 60% greater chance of dying of infections disease. Which is an astounding number.

Oh and a traditional MRI machine will rip a ferrous metal item right out of you. I saw one suck a steal bullet right out of a guy in Iraq. So I would not be surprised they would want you to take it out. In our labs, if you did not remove it, the test would not be run and you would have to pay us for wasting our time. But to each their own.

  13. I talked to one jack who is in the National Guard.

He claimed he bought an AR-15 to learn how to shoot.

It turned out he bought a rifle that looks a little like an AR-15

    but shoots only 22's.

He could have learned using a BB gun!

You have to be pretty blind to buy an AR design that only shoots .22. They are out there, but they are seriously light and have functional differences!! You would never mistake one for the other unless you had never held either.

That said... the amount of cash you would save in ammo might make it worth it!!!
