Soi11
This reminds me of when Pfizer was criticized for charging the same price for 50 and 100mg tablets of Viagra - Pfizer came back and said the purchasers of the 100mg were really getting 50mg of "free" Viagra. The Thai merchants have their marketing message ass backwards - they should advertise is a discount for paying cash, as opposed to a service fee for paying with a credit card - although it's really the same thing, it just sounds better. Soi11
I checked Travelocity, they're charging $58.29 US for a 1 bdrm., where did you find a quote on AOL? Thanks
vegasdave49
well by the time you figure the service charge and the credit card scam you are looking at close to 1600 baht. Well that is completely out of line. The GP is a great place and a good location and is woth 1000 baht but that is all. The are soo full of themselves these days I just cant believe it. HSTEACH
I'm returning to BKK for my Spring Break, and will pay 8400 Baht for a Topaz with breakfast for a week.
chaseq1
SkiBum: Have you had experience asking for the 20% discount on the list price? I reserved a studio at a weekly rate. Can I just walk up and ask for the discount on the list price or am I locked in based on the rate quoted in the reservation? Thanks
Guest
Your locked in if you pre-booked I believe. It's when you do a walk up and are quoted the price you then ask...no-one will turn you away if you have cash and they are under 70% occupied! I've walked up the times I got a 20+% off! I don't really mind paying the quoted price but if I can get it at a lower one then it's good! I really like President park group hotels...the suites are of good size and the services are exactly what I want in BKK. I'm booked from the 14 to the 21 at Solataire and May 1st to the 8th at Royal...I like Royal President the most. With it's executive and Deluxe 2 bedroom suites for 60 and 125 US. I like 2 room suites more women and fun can be had...JMHO! SB
BlazingStarz
I will not stay there again, they lost my reservation again (3rd time this has happened) And the rooms including the Suites are just getting far too grubby and worn,
HSTEACH
Quick update on the GP. The current monthly rate for a Topaz Studio is 26,000 Baht.. service charge inclusive. For 30 days that averages 867 Baht a night.
Encore
Considering the relatively small size of the rooms, and the general run-down ness of the Topaz rooms, I think for 26K Bt, you can do a hell of a lot better elsewhere. I haven't looked into apartments recently, but a couple of years back, I had a huge apartment, one Br plus large living, kitchen bathroom and balcony, fully serviced for 23 K Bt., five minutes by motocy from Thong Lor BTS I stay at GP only because I'm rarely in town for more then 4-5 days, and like the location. In Feb, I booked and asked them to confirm my usual TSM rate of 1450 + 10% SC. They confirmed. A month later, I booked again, and asked same rate, they emailed back and said "sorry that was last years rate, now 1600 + 10% I turned up on the day, told them 'last year's rate' was bullshit (Adjom Kwai?) (no, I remained polite), and showed them februari's email.). After intervention by a guy whose function I didn't quite grasp, they caved in and gave me the lower price. On the other hand, some time last year i was there for 6 days, and they upgraded me for free to a suite in Tower 1. Luck of the draw. I do like though that in Tower three, the nightwatchman is flexible. Sometimes, with an unknown visitor, he'll ask for ID, and I'm happy with that. At the sametime, when I tell him "don't worry about ID, this is an old friend, he'll just wave me through, knowing my room nr. by now. They never worry eitehr about bringing back home a couple of girls.
naughtyboy
I have just got a quote from them of 11,088 baht per week for a Topaz. In February I was quoted 9240per week, but they charged me only 7600baht in error. E.Mailed them to advise them of error before they discovered same, they said no error. All these with breakfast included. Confirms that they are now issusing ludicrous quotes.
