devils reject
Hi gents, I was wondering if any of the expats on here have info regarding shipping some items from Brisbane to Bangkok. There's not a great deal that needs to get over, probably about 8-10 boxes of clothes, books etc. Do any of you have any experience with shipping companies in Australia and if so which ones are the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
bust
Maybe PT Dumbcnut as he just sent a lot of stuff over. Just be aware of the duty...sometimes costs more than what the items are worth.
checkbin
Agree. I've done a move here twice in the last ten years. 1. pick a freight company that is truly international with a good reputation and ex-pat management in LOS; 2.study carefully Thai Customs regulations (all on-line, easy to find via Google); 3.mark the manifest USED/SECOND HAND for items that are so, not just a description of what they are (CDs, table, books etc). This should bring you a lower rate of duty BUT 4.be prepared for a customs official to suggest that you should pay a higher rate and/or that if you persist in claiming a lower rate, your entire consignment will have to join a long long queue so thateach item can be examined individually. 5. sometimes exceptions can be made for those making cash payments to the Customs Benevolent Fund (See 1 above: get a company that has Thai gophers as well as expat management). 6. think long and hard about whether it's worth moving specific items here. Hope this helps. CB

devils reject
Thanks for the replies guys. I've found a local company that will ship my gear for a reasonable price. Also found a shipping agent in Bkk that will help us clear the items through customs (for a small fee of course)
