cavanami
http://www.kevhead.com/readarticle.aspx?id=1306 America: This just happened today and our media is reporting who was voted out on this weeks American Idol and who will win Dancing With The Stars. You might want to wake up, your life depends on it. massive rescue operation was underway this evening to save the crew of a South Korean navy ship feared to have been hit by a North Korean torpedo. Several of the 104 crew were reported to have been killed and others are missing from the ship which sunk in waters near Baengnyeong island, close to the disputed maritime border between the two Koreas. South Korea's president President Lee Myung-bak convened an emergency meeting of security ministers amid concerns the incident could become the flashpoint to draw the countries closer to renewed conflict. A South Korean ship is said to have fired in apparent retaliation at a vessel in the north but there were no details of whether it was hit. Officials in the South Korean capital Seoul reported 59 people had been rescued from the unidentified 1,500-tonne naval vessel which was said to have begun to sink after an explosion at the rear... shygye
The cause of the explosion on the 1,200-tonne Cheonan remains unclear. The BBC's John Sudworth in Seoul says several possibilities have been suggested: * an accidental onboard explosion * a blast caused by hitting rocks or sea mines * or a deliberate outside attack. The naval patrol vessel sank near the disputed maritime border with North Korea but military officials say there is no indication the North was involved. ... But some relatives are accusing the navy of a cover-up, saying the ship was in need of repair. Link
TheCorinthian
Obviously an accident. Seriously, do you really think we would pass up on a chance to go get N.Korea?
chuckwoww
I don't think the US would pass up a chance. China, Japan and South Korea may not be so keen.
Julian2
Not sure the media slept, it was pretty well reported by TV news, Beeb, CNN and was covered by the big news papers websites.
chuckwoww
You're right. It did get quite a bit of coverage but I guess the 'accident' angle wasn't very exciting.
TheCorinthian
I don't think the US would pass up a chance. China, Japan and South Korea may not be so keen. Going to get NK would erase anything anyone thought about BO and the current game plans. It is pretty clear China would not care and would love for us to take responsibility for NK away from them. And yea, no media sleeping here. It was all over Fox and CNN.
chuckwoww
I don't think so. The Chinese would lose their watchdog and have the US right on their border not to mention a huge refugee problem. Plus I don't think there's much appetite in SK for an attack on the North....it would likely mean curtains for Seoul.
TheCorinthian
Doubt that. The reason China has not backed reform in NK is that they do not want the massive influx of refugees. Compare that to the massive influx of refugees from Iraq and Afgan out of the those countries during the current war.... (I.e., none) and you see my point. They would love us to take it on as we tend to pay the people left off.
