Boo Radley
Former Luk Thung Singer Penniless with Parkinson's Anyone remember Nopaporn Meuangsupan? No I don't either but apparently he was a Luk Thung singer who had a string of hits in the 70s including the famous hit 'Kit Theung Jang Loie'. It was reported in the Thai press this week that Nopaporn, now aged 63, has fallen on hard times and is reduced to living in a wat in Ayutthya province. Abandoned by his wife and daughter, he's now penniless and dependent on handouts for day to day survival. He had to stop singing in 1996 when he developed Parkinson's disease, the treatment for which eventually ate up all his money. The abbot of the wat took pity on him and invited him to stay there. Somewhat of a fall from fame and strange to hear his Thai family abandoned him, with filial piety being such a strong theme in Thai culture. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEUXm8wnTTo http://www.thairath.co.th/content/region/300789
Horneytorney
certainly Flasher will remember I just remember the song, interpreted by many others you should not judge as you do not know the background of the story, why his wife and daughter left him
Flashermac
I remember the song, don't particularly remember him. This is an all too common story. Anyone remember Saengsak Muangsurin, former WBC light welterweight champion? He won the title in 1975 in his third professional fight in MQ boxing! He later was in very poor health, nearly blind and penniless. He was living virtually on charity. It seems Thai celebrities are known for spending their money as if there were no tomorrow.
