  1. So YOU prefer the racist anti-semite Jesse Jackson, the man who calls NYC "Hymietown"? Or maybe Al Sharpton, a man with a reputation for seeing racism in anything? Rev. Al who demands reparations for all African Americans because their ancestors were held in slavery some 150 years ago? (I wonder if that includes Obama, whose family were slaveowners, not slaves.)

Tell me what part of Buchanan's column offends you? :hmmm:

Nope, I don't prefer any of those right or left wing voices and have never quoted any of them. Unfortunately it seems that in the US those radical voice get a lot of attention. The reasonable voice from the center seem to have lost ground in the past decade.

  2. It's all about race now

    by Pat Buchanan

Ah Buchnan, isn't it this right wing, anti-semitist commentator, who was recently fired by MSNBC for racist slurs. And this is the person you choose to present a valid opinion on the racially loaded Martin case?

  3. Physicist Analyzes Sandra Fluke's Birth Control Expenses

US health insurance companies are more than happy to pay for birth control. Because unwanted pregnancies, pre- and postnatal care are much more expensive...

  4. Zimmerman followed Martin, which he should not have done. Martin got pissed off and jumped Zimmerman, obviously intending to do him serious injury, which he should not have done. So how does one determine who is to blame? As I said, both are. It should be up to a court of inquiry to determine the guilt, not the press and politicians.

    :hmmm:

George Zimmerman Video Outrage: Where Are Injuries From Travyon Fight?

by Jesse Singal Mar 29, 2012 1:42 AM EDT

Newly released police video of George Zimmerman reveals none of the injuries he said he received from Trayvon Martin. Jesse Singal on how the footage lays bare the worst, most dangerous tendencies of the Internet—and ourselves.

If the police video of George Zimmerman being taken into questioning shows what it appears to show, if Zimmerman really was devoid of the injuries that had been so feverishly and eagerly recounted by his defenders, then we have on our hands an absolutely catastrophic failure on the part of the media, and one of the most dramatic, devastating examples in recent memory of the Internet’s power to decide “the facts†long before anyone has a clue what they are.

  5. Zimmerman followed Martin, which he should not have done. Martin got pissed off and jumped Zimmerman, obviously intending to do him serious injury,

    :hmmm:

This is Zimmerman's lawyer's version. It is still not clear at all what happened in the minutes/seconds before he killed

    Trayvon.

It still really surprising that Zimmerman hasn't been arrested, considering that the US police sometimes takes school children in for minor offenses.

  6. Reports now say a witness has been identified. He says Trayvon Martin had jumped Zimmerman and was beating him on the ground, with Zimmerman yelling for help. The witness called 911, and 911 said they could hear yelling in the background. The police also say that Zimmerman's face and head were bloody, and the back of his shirt was wet and had grass stains. So what is Obama going to say know if this turns out to be true? Maybe he shouldn't have shot him, but what would you have done?

Nothing like jumping to conclusions, Mr Prez.

<< Sonner declined to discuss most details of the case to protect his client, who is under investigation by a state special prosecutor, the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department.

But he did affirm a police report that Zimmerman suffered a bloody nose and a cut on the back of his head. Sanford police said they found no evidence to contradict Zimmerman's story of self defense, supported in part by the injuries.

Sonner said Martin punched Zimmerman in the nose and Zimmerman hit the back of his head on the ground upon falling backward. >>

The murder has become a battle field between the right, the dems and the blacks.

A lot of stuff doesn't add up currently. Both sides are fighting for their version of what happened at that night.

Clear seems to be that the guy walked home, without provoking anybody or even showing any signs that he was about to commit a crime.

Zimmerman followed him in his car and against the advice of the 911 person left the car and confronted him. What happened is not clear at the moment, except that the Zimmerman killed the guy.

Only a proper trial at court would be able to clear things up (the media almost probably won't).

I wonder if/how "Stand your ground" will be applied. If so, it's a license to kill. Just follow someone you want to murder, confront him/her with a gun in a place without witnesses and shoot him/her. Afterwards you just need to tell the police that you thought that the person looked suspicious and when confronted attacked you...

    surprised.gif

PS: How does the NRA say: Guns don't kill, but people do.

They might add that laws help people to kill (with a gun).

  7.

The idea of trying to get U.S. residents to spend their money on domestic soil is nice. But, reduced/free campsites isn't gonna cut it. In CA, state parks are already closing due to insufficient funds to keep them open. And with soaring gasoline prices, fewer will take domestic trips this year, I am certain. Again, those in LA might go to Magic Mountain or Disneyland for their vacation. On the other hand, if we all just correctly inflated our automobile tires, we could get better milage and reduce our reliance on foreign oil. Right? LOL

Isn't it the case, that 80% of the US citizens don't own a passport?

  8. Chris Rock Attacks Conservative Author Over Tea Party Question

The New York Times bestselling author of the explosive new book, Hollywood Hypocrites: The Devastating Truth About Obama’s Biggest Backers, Jason Mattera, had his crew’s camera snatched and hurled by comedian Chris Rock when he asked the star why he has called the Tea Party racist.

“I was stunned,†said Mr. Mattera in an exclusive interview with Big Hollywood. “Tea Party members get called the worst things imaginable and still remain peaceful. But ask a big Hollywood celebrity to explain himself and the guy goes ballistic, wrestles the camera away from my camerawoman, chucks it 50 feet, and then challenges me to a fight. It’s unreal. And it perfectly illustrates why I decided to investigate and write Hollywood Hypocrites.â€

The confrontation, which took place around 2:00 a.m. on January 23, 2012, at Spike Lee’s Sundance Film Festival after party at Tao night club, ended with Chris Rock challenging the conservative author to a fight, says Mr. Mattera:

“Chris Rock shouted, ‘You want to throw down? Let’s throw down right now!’ Of course, he was standing safely behind two bodyguards when he said it.â€

The clash was ignited when Jason Mattera inquired about disparaging comments Chris Rock made about the Tea Party in an Esquire article in 2011:

"When I see the Tea Party and all this stuff, it actually feels like racism's almost over. Because this is the last — this is the act up before the sleep. They're going crazy. They're insane. You want to get rid of them — and the next thing you know, they're fucking knocked out. And that's what's going on in the country right now."

Jason Mattera says his confrontation with Chris Rock is just the opening salvo in a series of forthcoming ambush celebrity interviews with some of the big name stars he chronicles in Hollywood Hypocrites.

“Hollywood celebrities preach to us to vote for Barack Obama and his leftist policies, yet not even they live by the values Obama and the progressive left stand for,†said Mattera. “If conservatives and Republicans are going to win in 2012, we must muzzle Obama’s backers. And that starts with a full-scale investigation of the positions they take and the lives they actually lead.â€

Among the celebrity targets Jason Mattera’s investigates in his new book are:

    - Alec Baldwin

    - Matt Damon

    - Leonardo DiCaprio

    - Madonna

    - Bruce Springsteen

    - Whoopi Goldberg

    - Bono

    - Arianna Huffington

    - Jon Bon Jovi

    - Spike Lee

Andrew Breitbart endorsed Jason Mattera’s book, saying that it “unleashes a barrage of body blows to Hollywood’s holier-than-thou limousine liberals that may make them think twice next time they open their pretty mouths.â€

As for when he plans to release his next celebrity interview for Hollywood Hypocrites, Mr. Mattera says: “As President Ronald Reagan used to say, ‘You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!’ The next video is likely to drop sometime next week.â€

LOS seems almost normal in comparison to the US these days. :hmmm:

Flash, I said this before. Please look for more reliable sources. Breitbart.com is a right wing noise machine which has posted a lot of bs and falsehoods in the past. Breitbart was known to manipulate information so much that it got a complete different meaning.

    Remember Shirley Sherrod?

When you rely solely on those sources you are not better informed than an undereducated Fox News/Limbaugh fan.

    You really should know better.

  9. Currently all polls show that Obama is doing well against the GOP candidates. But in the end the current status doesn't mean anything. A lot of things can happen until November...

I wonder what effect this will have (if any) on the Hispanic vote. Hispanics are probably over 90% Roman Catholics.

    Obama leads six-to-one among Latinos

    By BYRON TAU |

    3/5/12 5:07 PM EST

President Obama leads all his Republican rivals among Latino voters, according to a new poll

    released Monday.

According to the latest national Fox News Latino survey, none of the Republican contenders for the presidential nomination poll above 14 percent in a head-to-head matchup against Obama. That's a 17 point drop in support from John McCain's 2008 share of the Hispanic vote — with McCain garnering 31 percent of that group four years ago.

Obama has a six-to-one advantage among Hispanics, leading Mitt Romney 70 percent to 14 percent among likely Latino voters. Obama also beats Newt Gingrich 72 to 14 percent. And Obama is also drawing a significant well of his Hispanic support from former John McCain voters. According to the poll, 40 percent of John McCain voters are now supporting Obama over Gingrich or Romney, while 38 percent are supporting Obama over Rick Santorum.

Obama's approval rating among Hispanics stands at 73 percent — with 66 percent approving of his handling of the economy.

The poll is more evidence that Republican rhetoric on immigration is alienating a group of voters that was competitive for Republicans just a few cycles ago. In 2004, George W. Bush captured 44 percent of the Hispanic vote and tried to push a comprehensive immigration reform bill through Congress after his victory. Since that election and the failure of immigration reform for both parties, Hispanics have abandoned the GOP in record numbers.

  10. I've heard the same thing for quite a while even from die hard Republicans. The faithful will still vote for the party's nominee, but many independents who are tired of Obama may well just stay home and not vote for either of them.

I don't know about US politics, but in Germany people are rarely really enthusiastic about a candidate. Usually it is about electing the lesser evil and the candidate who _might_ be capable of offering a better future. in German politics ideology as well as personal/moral/religous matters play a much smaller role. Contrary to the US - where ideology and religion even trumps personal welfare and income during elections - in Germany it is mostly about money. When a party performs badly - like not being able to deal with a financial crises - the party will be voted out office soon. Currently we have a prime example: The liberals (the free market and pro business party) promised lower taxes during the last election, but then they only lowered taxes for a small group of supporters (like hotel chains). Within two years the Liberals fell from 15% to 3% and they even might vanish soon...

But I guess in a way the German majority is kind of immune against radical ideologies, because of its history. Unfortunately this kind of immunity might weaken over the years.

  11. NBC/WSJ poll: Primary season takes 'corrosive' toll on GOP and its candidates

By Mark Murray, NBC News Senior Political Editor

As another round of voting takes place this week in the Republican presidential race – with 11 states holding Super Tuesday contests – a new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows that the combative and heavily scrutinized primary season so far has damaged the party and its candidates.

Four in 10 of all adults say the GOP nominating process has given them a less favorable impression of the Republican Party, versus just slightly more than one in 10 with a more favorable opinion.

Additionally, when asked to describe the GOP nominating battle in a word or phrase, nearly 70 percent of respondents – including six in 10 independents and even more than half of Republicans – answered with a negative comment.

Some examples of these negative comments from Republicans:

    "Unenthusiastic,"

    "discouraged,"

    "lesser of two evils,"

    "painful,"

    "disappointed,"

    "poor choices,"

    "concerned,"

    "underwhelmed,â€

    “uninspiring†and

    “depressed.

  12. I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities.

Of course Rush and GOP want to make the topic go away. The GOP always used the right wing culture war during elections (remember the anti-gay bashing), and they used the culture war very successfully.

But now for the first time since decades the GOP is losing the culture war in their fight against women's rights.

    - First the embarrassing struggle between the Komen Foundation (a billion USD cancer research enterprise) and Planned Parenthood which lead to firing of a high ranking GOP member from the Komen Foundation,

    - than the GOP had to walk back laws that would force women to get an intra-vaginal soundscan before the get an abortion,

    - and now the contraception issue. Since the contraception issue is a topic for _all_ women (even 98% of Catholic women use a kind of contraception, completely against the Pope's will) the GOP is alienating a whole generation of young and middle age women (and their male peers), for whom this was a struggle their mothers fought in the 1960s.

And there is another difference to previous culture war battles: This fight wasn't exclusively chosen by the GOP. The GOP and the Catholic Bishops were working on this issue since some time, but Obama carried the fight to the GOP when he asked the Catholic institutions to pay for contraception. As expected the GOP's and religious right's outcry was huge. They blew the issue up to monumental proportions making it an issue of "religious freedom". And what did Obama? He just took it back a few days later and said, OK, the Catholics don't have to pay, but their health insurance companies (which are nonreligious) have to.

By now the GOP campaign was rolling and couldn't be stopped: The GOP leadership called for a hearing about "Religious Freedom" (not contraception) in Washington, consisting exclusively of male panelists (including priests). And this was the hearing the GOP denied Fluke to talk...

And after Rush's slurs against Fluke (the best what could happen to the Dems, since the slur hit at all women), Obama called her personnally.

In the meantime Dems raised 1.6 Mio USD on Rush's slurs against Fluke.

It seems that Obama is learning how to play the game, finally. Actually I am wondering, if this wasn't scripted by the Obama camp from the beginning?

PS: I guess the Dems want to keep the issue alive for some time. Let's see how the GOP deals with the topic in the next weeks.

  13. So now the taxpayers are required to finance women's sex life? The Feds never gave me a penny when I was trying to get laid as a student. :hmmm:

Oh, yeah ... the Pres of the US had nothing better to do than take time to call Ms Flake and assure her of his support. :grouphug:

    My link

First, it is election time. The contraception issue is playing into Obama's hand. The GOP is losing the young female electorate completely (except the right wing Christians of course). And now Obama is playing the hand the GOP and Limbaugh dealt to him.

Second, as far as I know, Viagra is being paid for. IMHO it is the same like paying for contraception.

Third paying the pill comes much cheaper for a state than paying for unwanted pregnancies, the which come with very high social costs.

It seems to me, that you Flash are moving very far right at the moment, if you agree to GOPs revitalized culture war.

  14. http://news.yahoo.co...-192340271.html

    Have the Republicans Already Lost?

I am not comfortable with major media organizations calling elections early like this. I know its their right, I just think its bad journalism. Its well known that too many Americans are sheep. Even though I prefer Obama, I like as fair of an election as possible without undue influence.

I think it is total bullshit to declare an election won or lost before the votes have been counted. It is the third US election cycle I am following and the spinning of the news cycle seems to be much faster than last time. The competition and the pressure to produce news seems to be much higher with all the new media who have entered the market (Huffington Post, Big Goverrnment, e.g.). Today every verbal poop by a candidate and/or his spin doctors has become newsworthy.

  15. A poll would also reveal a good number of Americans believe Elvis and bin Laden are still alive and the moon landing was faked. Heck, a scary number still think he's a practicing muslim.

This will backfire. If he's kept off the ballot or they force the President to do some jumping through hoops, it will provide a lot of sympathy for him. Lets face it, birthers will NEVER be satisfied with any proof and they can and will find some nutty 'expert' to confirm their suspicions. I could find an expert to say I'm a white female if I look hard enough.

Have you seen who is behind this bullshit?

Nevertheless, media organizations from all political persuasions are seeking admittance to a news conference to be held by Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Ariz.

The US media circus loves crazies like Sheriff Arpaio.a reportage about him.

    Link monkeydance.gif

Even German tv did report about him.

I wonder what kind of websites Flash is using as sources on US politics...

  16. Looking at the GOP candidates Americans swing back to Obama.

I guess it's no surprise, since the GOP candidates have all moved towards the hardcore right.

And I guess Americans are now moving towards the lesser of the two evils. That's what politics is all about in the end.

The question is, if any of the GOP candidates will be able to move back towards the center for to become electable?

Poll: Obama tops 50% vs. all comers

    By: MJ Lee

    February 22, 2012 06:20 AM EST

President Barack Obama is topping 50 percent support in match-ups against each of the four Republican presidential candidates, a new poll finds.

In a general election contest against Mitt Romney, the president leads his Republican opponent 51 to 43 percent, according to an Associated Press-GfK survey on Wednesday. This demonstrates a significant lead for Obama compared to the December poll when the two were virtually tied at 47 to 46 percent.

Meanwhile, Obama would lead Rick Santorum 52 to 43 percent, Newt Gingrich 52 to 42 percent, and Ron Paul 53 to 44 percent.

While both candidates are trailing well behind Obama, Santorum is virtually tied with Romney as the preferred presidential nominee among Republican voters. Thirty-three percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters said they would like to see Santorum seize the party’s nomination, while 32 percent chose Romney. Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul were both the preferred nominees of 15 percent of Republicans.

Romney was shown with the highest favorability rating in the GOP field at 50 percent; Paul and Santorum were next with 47 and 44 percent favorability ratings, respectively, while Gingrich trailed behind at 33 percent.

The poll revealed a significant level of dissatisfaction among the Republican voting bloc about the current presidential field –39 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning voters said they are not satisfied with their choice of 2012 candidates.

The Associated Press-GfK Poll was conducted Feb. 16-20 among 1,000 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

  17. That's what happens when socialist policies keep expanding. I know it's "fashionable" to berate the rich and "super rich" and make them the fall guys for what problems the U.S. has. But it's not that simple. Merely convenient.

Just have a look at Gini Index. In regard to the distribution of wealth the USA is moving closer to 3rd World Countries... :-)

And here is a quote from the Federal Reserve Bank (during Bush's era - it doesn't seem to be a place for leftist socialists)

According to Janet L. Yellen, President and CEO, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco,

...from 1973 to 2005... real hourly wages of those in the 90th percentile—where most people have college or advanced degrees—rose by 30 percent or more... among this top 10 percent, the growth was heavily concentrated at the very tip of the top, that is, the top 1 percent. This includes the people who earn the very highest salaries in the U.S. economy, like sports and entertainment stars, investment bankers and venture capitalists, corporate attorneys, and CEOs. In contrast, at the 50th percentile and below—where many people have at most a high school diploma—real wages rose by only 5 to 10 percent –

The only facts I got out of the "movement" in the U.S. are that there are thousands of "losers" who have nothing better to do than sleep out in a public park, disrupt private businesses and commerce, and conduct anarchist activities.

    HH.

The well documented fact is, that the US working and middle class lost income since many years while the rich became super rich. US workers/middle class are back to the pay level of the 1970s....

  19. It should certainly be applied if the US company closes in the US and takes it's manufacturing division overseas to take advantage of the $2 a day wages in Indonesia.

When are these idiots going to realise that eventually no one in the US will be able to afford $200 for a pair of shoes.

The occupy movement forced this fact into the mainstream media. For politicians and the connected businesses were able to play this down...
