  1. You see honey ..... whatever is standard in Japan is not applicable to Thailand. Or should I expect taxi's here to charge me the Dutch taxifare?

The Dutch taxi laws and fares would matter if a Dutch person was super pissed at being overcharged, started a campaign that went viral, then signs started to appear saying “No Dutch Tourists†in Dutch, Thai and English.

  2. I like it down there - still has life and small commerce and lawlessness - kind of like Chungking Mansions in Hong Kong, a little glimmer of something different in a homogenized world. These days it's got an African component to it too, and everybody has something going on. Good spot.

The comparison to Chungking is a very good one. Haven't been to Chungking in more than twenty years but that is a great analogy for someone 40+ years old who has lived any amount of time in Asia.

No idea if Chungking is still going or not but the feel is certainly similar.

  3. However, to place a comment on a public board, making reference to your own wife as being nothing more than a monkey, is unacceptable and offensive.

It was Thailand in general, I pasted the exact text above, but something I think you should not say if you have a Thai wife, like Thailand, want to live in Thailand someday, etc.

It is far worse than just bad taste in my opinion. It is something only an idiot would say on a Thai board and shows their true feelings.

If someone looks down on Thais, which that comment clearly proves, then perhaps Thailand is not the right country for them. Calling Thailand a "monkey country" is calling all Thais "monkeys".

  4. Anyway soi arab has some very good food! While you are there try it!

    W

There are some great restaurants there! Amazingly cheap as well.

Changing currency will not be a problem but the rates for some currencies might not be that good.

  5. Now in Time magazine ...

The Land of Smiles? How about the Land of Shakedowns?

    http://time.com/3674...down-extortion/

I think something has clearly come down for the Post to even print that...now Time!.

This is probably the last police district in Bangkok that anyone would want to fuck with in any way. On the other side this is probably the best police district to help if you have a problem....if you aren't a tourist.

Happy to hear that the officer mentioned in the article is taking these complaints seriously. About time...

A year or two ago I saw a post titled “Fuck The Police†on a Thai forum. It was obviously written by an angry sex tourist with minimal Thai experience or knowledge – maybe unsuccessful with their annual ejaculation or just not too smart. Or both.

Thonglor would be the LAST police district in Thailand I would say this about as they do have responsibility for Soi Cowboy.

Am willing to bet that most owners of banks and most owners of Thai industry live in Thonglor District. Probably the majority of the government as well. Thais living in Thailand will always be the priority with tourists pretty far down the ladder.

Not sure who would know but I think that Thonglor is probably the highest percentage of Muslims in any central Thai police district and they have- or had - an incredible number of language abilities...Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese. most Myanmar languages, etc.

Does anyone know if this is being covered in the Thai press as well?

  6. Cum in Thailand

    Nok

So many girls say they will give good head. So many don't deliver. But my friend Nok, who I met early on in my 15 week trip, is one who prides herself in being a good, no, a GREAT prostitute. She carries pleasing to the extreme. It is a personal ethic with her and if she didn't have it, she wouldn't enjoy her work. Remember sanuk? Part of everything in Thailand.

So she is into giving whatever the man wants if she likes him. And she liked me. She got really involved in the giving me head and worked herself up along with me. When I moved (just a little bit!), like I didn't like something (she has sharp teeth) she got way too upset and stormed into the bathroom. I was perplexed! She ranted in bad English. "I have feeling too," she said several times. "I don't think you (will) finish." (Cum) "When man finish, I finish." She's not lying - if I'm not going to be satisfied she is going be hurt, disappointed, frustrated and pissed. She calmed down. Thankfully I got off in her mouth. When I did she jumped up and danced all over the bed. She actually did the naked boogie all over the bed, ecstatic! "Oh I feel good!" she beamed. "Yes! I feel good! I feel GOOD!"

I was feeling good to be back on the board. Buffalo Bill kind of inspried me.....

The way he built the giant mansion up north for Nok...it was at the same time the decent and correct thing to do...while at the same time so over the top and out of place. A huge gesture....

    Then this thread popped up.

    Is this the same Nok?

  7. If any other group demanded their own police force I wonder what the response would be? Did not believe this when told - I wonder if the UK taxpayer is funding this?

And are to expand and gain acceptance for a Jewish private police force in OUR country ?

NOTE – “Shomrim volunteers receive police training and uniformsâ€

    Daily Mail Headline

“Jewish patrol cars out in force in London amid fears of copycat attack in wake of kosher store siege in Parisâ€

Imagine the Dailymail headlines if we natives did the same or god forbid scary Muslims.....

  8. My sincere sympathies. I had to have a cat that I had for 10 years put down. She had cancer and the vet strongly suggested that it should be done. It is an absence in the family.

One of the regrrets I'll have for the rest of my life was ignoring our vets "strong" suggestion.

    It sure is an absence.

    Condolences.

  9. Hey Russ, Nut bar is ok. There is a big strip, they are hit and miss. Very good value. Girls have a good attitude there.

    Whoa!!!

    This is great!!!!

Really happy to see you back......you made some great posts some years back.

  10. When I came home from China last year March after 2 weeks absence she died within 2 hours or so. You guessed she was waiting for me ; I tend to agree . I got a wonderful new one in the meantime but I still feel the pain .

Think she waited for sure...just could not go out without saying goodbye to you.

The ability of dogs to sense our mood and emotions is really amazing as is the loyalty. The Hachiko story is a great one and I think every dog has this to some degree...the more the person likes the dog the greater the loyalty.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D

The sad part is that people really did not like the dog showing up each day for some years and Hachiko was actually taking risk in showing up for the same train at the same time. For years and years and years...

Fiery Jack probably knows more about this story as it is possible to drink enough in Shibuya to actually mistake the Hachiko statue for a urinal...20 to 25 drinks in.

  11. KS,

Have not really been on the board much this last year and not at all since this was posted:

    what a monkey country !

    ×¢× ×™×©×¨×ל ×—×™

If this poster wants to call his wife a “monkey†or her country a “monkey country†at home that is, of course, up to him. Up to the wife if she chooses to take it.

My issue is that most of us have wives and girlfriends that we consider human. We don't consider Thailand a “monkey country†or Thais “monkeysâ€. Generally, people who feel that way don't express it publicly on a Thai-centric board.

Never having lived in Thailand or a very minimal knowledge of Thai culture or minimal level of Thai experience is not really an excuse as this is really about common decency. Even the once a year sex tourist usually understands that calling Thailand a “monkey country†is not acceptable.

An apology won't come but I think you are owed one for saying that on your board, to everyone on the board who have- in his opinion - married “monkeys†or have half “monkey†children, as well as to 67,000,000 million Thais.

Thai360 has been a great way to keep connected to Thailand and wanted you to know the reason I, and probably many others, don't post as much. You strike a great balance between freedom of speech which, in some cases, is also the freedom for some posters to show their true colors or, as I've done a few times, make asses out of themselves.

With one exception I think everyone on this board is grateful!

If someone feels Thailand is a “monkey country†they are certainly free to leave thai360 and start ling360.com

Feel better now that I've said that...Buffalo Bill coming back inspired me to return. Hope it does for many others as well.....

I predict this will be a great New Year for Thai360!!!

A touch late but …...Happy New Year!

  12. Which does , Mr Mekong , only prove that visual inspection of related parts is usually less accurate than any physical impression .

On a sidenote . Would a detailed report about a " longtime " - romance ( 6000 Thai Baht ) with a freelance hooker with good heart whom I picked up at Beergarden soi 7 destroy my reputation on this fine board which I decided to rejoin after a 12 months sabbathical ?

If so I could alternatively offer another romance ( longtime 4000 Thai Baht ) with a GoodThaiGirl working in an extremely serious Thai massage/spa at Silom Road leading quality tourist BuBi into an " Isaan Dancing " due to her "sister´s " birthday . Isaan dancings since then I do not recommend , reasons being noise level and general confusion . Mademoiselle´s brother in law , by the way , works in a gay show near Patpong , has two children , married and spends most of his paid time with Chinese women though . A muscly dude of excellent behaviour I must admit . Chase women and you learn a lot is what I am saying .

Aforementioned events as per 2nd week December 2014 , for the record .

There is more to it .

    bubi-

Really happy to see you back.

You are always polite even when you disagree and we need more of that!

  13. My own pet, Tarby, died last Sunday, so I know a little of how you and your family feel right now, my friend. It's awful, I know, but we have to keep pushing on. Find the next stepping stone; don't sink.

All the best KS. Be well.

    Condolences Jack..

    It is hard!

  14. KS,

    My deepest sympathies!

Losing a dog is in some ways harder than losing a person.

Had our dog a similar length of time and it is painful - console yourself with the fact that he did not seem to suffer. The thing that I regret with my dog is the veterinarian said it really wasn't fair to keep him alive as it was going to end so painfully for him. It sure did and I will regret it the rest of my life!

Dogs seem to know when it is coming.

    Anyway, condolences.

Hard for people who don't have dogs to understand.

  15. A nice and respectful eulogy, though Tim was an administrative specialist (a clerk), not a combat soldier. I bent a few elbows with him, and he was a good guy. RIP, GI. We will raise a few in your memory.

What I really admired about him was after his daughter became so famous he changed clothing a bit, suits more often, but his personality remained the same.

In the mid-80s I was somewhere near Victory Monument trying to get a taxi and Wanchai pulled saw me and pulled over. Did not know him well then. Spent a while driving around listening to the Doors. Will never forget that....you can't just drop someone off when "Riders on the Storm" is starting.

Used to see him at his apt in Patpong and run into him at his house in Bang Na a few times a year for many, many, many years. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone and was a sincerely positive person.

Now I regret the last time he and I talked I did not tell him what a sincerely good person I thought he was.

  16. Former Post editor dies

Michael Gorman, editor of the Bangkok Post from 1971-1983, died on Sept 11 at his home in southwestern France after a short illness. He was 76.

Apart from being editor and publisher of the Bangkok Post, Gorman was also managing director of Allied Printers.

Born in Croydon, United Kingdom and a graduate from Bristol University majoring in economics, Gorman came to Thailand in 1970 after having worked with the Thomson Organisation Limited since 1960.

He was a trustee of the Press Foundation of Asia for 10 years and was an active member of the International Press Institute. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Economic Society and member of the Institute of Marketing.

Gorman successfully steered the Bangkok Post through a turbulent period in recent Thai history while securing its financial situation, eventually listing Post Publishing Co on the SET Index in 1980.

He oversaw the merger of the Bangkok Post and its rival morning daily the Bangkok World in 1972 with the World reverting to a tabloid evening paper.

At a time when Thailand was under heavy pressure from both democratic revolutions and military coups, Gorman successfully guided the Post. He was jailed briefly in the early 1980s after offending the military autocrat Gen Kriangsak Chomanan.

Under his stewardship the Post was selected to help the Chinese government set up its first English-language newspaper, the China Daily. Gorman also established Thailand’s first non-contributory pension scheme for staff.

Gorman resigned from the company on May 1, 1985.

He is survived by his wife Christine, and children Julius, Benedict and Chloe.
