  1. Los Angeles (CNN) -- Devo guitarist Bob Casale died Monday, his brother and band mate announced Tuesday. Casale was 61.

    140218144920-pwl-bob-casale-story-top.jpg

He was known by fans as "Bob 2" since he played alongside guitarist Bob Mothersbaugh, the brother of Devo co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh.

Devo actively toured in recent years, including a televised performance playing at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

"He was excited about the possibility of Mark Mothersbaugh allowing Devo to play shows again," Gerald Casale wrote in his brother's death announcement. "His sudden death from conditions that led to heart failure came as a total shock to us all."

they were great live, very odd stage prescence.

time to dust off 'gut feeling'----

  2. Trigger (1944-2014) :rip:

Roger Lloyd-Pack, the British actor known to millions as slow-witted roadsweeper Trigger in BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, has died aged 69.

Well-known for his rubbery face and lugubrious delivery, he also appeared as Owen Newitt in The Vicar of Dibley.

Born in Islington, north London in 1944, he was the son of Hammer horror actor Charles Lloyd-Pack and the father of actress Emily Lloyd.

His agent confirmed he died of pancreatic cancer on Wednesday night.

A versatile character actor who was at home with both comedy and drama, Lloyd Pack studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) before making his stage debut in Northampton.

After appearances in The Avengers and other TV shows, his screen debut came in 1968 when he played a small part in The Magus.

His breakthrough came in 1981 when he was cast as Colin "Trigger" Ball, the dim but amiable roadsweeper who always called Nicholas Lyndhurst's Rodney character "Dave".

"If it's a girl they're calling her Sigourney after an actress," he said of Del Boy's child-to-be. "And if it's a boy they're naming him Rodney, after Dave."

Lloyd Pack was the only actor, apart from Lyndhurst and Sir David Jason, to appear in both the first and last episode of the much-loved sitcom.

Its success would lead the actor to call his role "both a blessing and a curse" and express bemusement about his popularity with audiences.

'It's extraordinary to me as an actor to find oneself in a sitcom that's been successful and goes on being successful," he said. "I can't go anywhere without anyone going on about it."

His last appearance as Trigger came in the show's 2003 Christmas special. The BBC had hoped he would make an appearance in the sketch show later this year for Sports Relief, but he was too unwell.

In recent years he was seen at the Shakespeare's Globe, appearing alongside Mark Rylance and Stephen Fry in its production of Richard III and Twelfth Night.

A committed socialist, he campaigned for nuclear disarmament and was a supporter of Left Unity, a recently formed "radical political party of the left".

John Challis, who appeared as Boycie in Only Fools, said the news was "very sad and very distressing" and that Lloyd Pack was "irreplaceable".

"My thoughts are with his family," said the actor. "He was a remarkable man and he'll be missed."

Father Ted creator Graham Linehan was among others to pay tribute, saying it was "very sad news".

"Trigger was an ancestor to Father Dougal and I'm glad I once had a chance to tell him so," he said on Twitter.

James Corden called him an "incredible actor and person", while Lord Sugar tweeted that Trigger had been "one of my favourite characters".

His death was also marked by CND, who marked his death by posting a picture of the actor campaigning against Trident.

viewers voted the scene of Del falling through bar-hatch as the funniest in the entire series, but definately made by Trigger's reaction.....

  3. What really stood out for me was the hatred Vieira had for RVN...lol. Fantastic player but a snidely, sneaky, weasley fouler. Still think Vieira was the better of the two. Second thing that stood out was how highly Vieira thought of Scholes. I hated the ginger prick.

you may have hated the 'ginger prick'.but paddy was talking about his admiration for a fine player.

  4. It is really a rather mediocre weapon, not very accurate. However, it is cheap to make and so simple that almost anyone can use it ... and it is nearly indestructible. It throws out a lot of lead and is deadly at fairly close ranges. It is amazing that it is still in so much use these days.

a bit late, but one for the Brits.........DAVID COLEMAN........

  5. Seeking a cure for the hangover? Scientists say, 'Sprite'

    http://news.yahoo.co...-181644088.html

Most of us have been there. An evening of booze-fueled revelry morphs into a morning of nausea and regret. What's a hangover-stricken body to do?

In the past, those with experience on the subject, like your college roommate, have suggested the copious consumption of herbal teas. Now, Chinese scientists have declared that a swig of Sprite might be just what the doctor ordered...

    tried and tested by me.

i always found any carbonated drink cleared my head and any nausea i had.

obviously did'nt do anything for any alcohol still running around the body, but boy did it clear the head....

  6. went to the England Women v Turkey women game tonight,a WC qualifier.

played at Fratton Park (ground of the once mighty Portsmouth F.C.) and very entertaining it was.

i follow the English Women's football more then the overpaid prima-donnas who masquerade as macho males.

the Turks are a lot lower in the rankings then the English and it was evident, but you still have to beat whoever is put in front of you and the game was effectively over as England raced to a 2-0 lead in the first 3 Minutes or so.

i really enjoyed the game and a lot of passion and skill shown throughout the match, but also in a very sporting manner.

no cynical fouls,no players rolling around in feigned agony and every little foul was followed by an apology and a handshake and best of all no cards shown.

i was a regular at the ground in the late 70's/early 80's and much changed.

i really missed the moat around the pitch which frequently had players falling into it which always resulted in loud cheers in the old days.

the Turks were completely outclassed but did manage to hit the bar with a fantastic strike from distance and their goalie(who was tiny)pulled off a fantastic save towards the end.

game finally ended 8-0 to England(it should have been double figures)and their was a nice touch at the end when the England centre-forward consoled the Turkish goalie who was in tears at conceding so many goals.

but to be fair most of the goals were too good for her to have any chance with, she was not helped by the awful defending in front of her.

a crowd of 6,293 which was very impressive and it was so good to see so many children(mainly girls)at the game making a hell of a noise.

in my part of the UK there is a long history of young girls playing the game and such a thrill for them to see their heroines in the flesh.

the only bad point were the bloody official English band making such a racket with their trumpets and drums which at times was way over the top.

and some of the crowd around me making stupid stereo-typical remarks about the Turks.

nothing nasty or offensive, just stupid comments that went on all game and soon became boring.

and of course it was the adults who were making the comments and thinking they were being original and funny.

but good the game was a 7pm K.O. which allowed the kids to get home early before school in the morning and free entry for under 16's.

an enjoyable evening watching the sport being played the way it should be.

  7. Cheers Mekong Utd did spoil my day they scored.,City were just to good for Utd today. It's only 3 points at the end of the day.But its only ways nice to beat Utd.

well played City, best team in all departments and they should have scored a few more really.

the 2nd goal just on H/T was the killer.

Utd too pedestrian all game and still lack that cutting edge once they get near the goal.

took 66 mins for Joe Hart to make a save...... :shakehead

why oh why was Young on the pitch for so long?,we needed goals and should have had the likes of Hernandez and Kagawa on the pitch.

but once again, hats off to City, but as you say,too early to get excited about the League.

will be interesting to see how Moyes feels about the game against Liverpool mid-week?.

will he play the reserves or will he go for it in a big way?.

  8. Sunderland v Arsenal game was a good match to watch as a neutral, Ozil showed his class 2 assists but Atkinson blew it big time at 1-2 when Sunderland scored a legitimate equaliser and he called it back for a free kick, what a tosser.

As for United, dire, Young is an embarrassment and a disgrace and hopefully thats the last time he starts this season They laboured for 45 minutes against 10 men of a promoted team and only managed a second goal from a set piece. The only highlight for me was Moyse giving Adan Januzaj his first Premier League appearance he did more in his 20 minutes on the field than Young and Valencia have managed in the previous 3.75 games.

I was lucky to see him play in the Reserve team on many occasions earlier this year when I was in the UK for a few months and he was head and shoulders above the rest, quite ironic he got his Premier League debut 50 years to the day that George Best made his debut against West Brom or the fact he was played on the left as substitute exactly the same as an unknown Christiano Ronaldo did in 2003 against Bolton as an 18 year old.

I do rate him that highly, that boy was born to play football.

i also was glad to see Januzaj get on the pitch.

seen a bit of him over the last couple of seasons as he worked his way through the ranks and was one of the better performers on the pre-season tour.

loved his attitude and willingness to have a go on his big day.

agree that Young and Valencia are not performing at all so far this season, how often are they getting the ball and doing fuck-all with it?.

Utd are still looking a bit lacking with ideas upfront at the moment but that will come after they get used to the way Moyes wants them to play, but then again not that much needs tinkering.

an interesting week or so coming up with Leverkusan,City and Liverpool in 3 different competitions.

but things are not so bad as i've just watched Chelsea lose at Everton..... :grinyes:

  9. I cannot see Liverpool scoring against United, Chelsea didn't manage it yet put 2 past Bayern on Friday. As previously stated I do believe that the choices available to Moyes for the back 4 is the envy of most European clubs.

Liverpool had a difficult time against Notts County Midweek in the Mickey Mouse Cup and the game went to extra time, their best defender Tourre is now out injured and they picked up another couple of knocks, I can see it being a 1-0 to United.

I stand by my prediction that Spurs will be top of the Table come Monday Morning

already Gerrard is saying that Liverpool are at a disadvantage after their exploits in midweek.

he is claiming tiredness and players having to play too often already, for fuck's sake Stevie, the Season's only 2 weeks old...

  10. Citeh yet again failed to impress today against Hull who were holding their own for the first 65 minutes.

Ben Arfa's goal against Fulham was quiet special but outdone by O'Keefes strike for Palace.

Hopefully tomorrow's football will be a bit better, I bet SKY are already calling it Super Sunday, United visit Anfield, always a special game to me followed by the North London Derby, I would not be surprised to see Spurs top of the League tomorrow evening.

if Utd win they will be above City,Chelsea,Arsenal and liverpool in the table.

it maybe only be for a couple of weeks but good to look at everyday......

but knowing my wishful thinking,Utd will get trounced....let's hope not :nono:

  11. Bayern don't look as dominant as last season (yet).. but the serious games don't start until next year so quite a few teams with new players/managers have plenty of time to gel. I think Neymar will do well at Barca scoring goals and taking some of the pressure (not that it seems to bother him tho) and attention (think space) off of Messi. My money.. as Mekong all the 50 Baht my wife allows me to.. is on Barca. Hope Moyes' men prove me wrong tho :)

as you say it's early days but there is strong rumours coming out of Barca that Messi does'nt like/get on with Neymar.

seen all their games so far and Neymar not getting much game-time at the moment and when he does seems a little out of his depth, but will take time to integrate in a new country and players as it does many players in his situation.

but the pressure on him will be immense because of who he is,how much he cost and the expectations on him.

saw Barca the other night and Messi was kicked to fuck and still Neymar was kept on the bench.. :hmmm:

    but time will tell.

Utd should have beaten Chelsea if you just looked at the teams on the night, but both teams were a little lacking upfront and both defences did'nt really have much to contend with,Mourinho will have been happier with a draw.

Liverpool tomorrow and hopefully a more entertaining game and a lot more fiesty, don't really know how it will pan out.

happy with Utd's draw in the CL.

i admit the German and Spanish teams are a little unknown to me but i know they will be tough games.

always dread games in Eastern Europe because the weather conditions can really be a factor, but we play in the Ukraine early on so hopefully will be quite good with decent conditions.

confident we will progress from the group.

but in no way do i believe we will win the CL.

The Arse seem to have the hardest group in my eyes and i think their squad could be found out,but who knows?.

btw Steve, forget the past and what happened in the past with all the injustices (or the one's you imagine) against your team.

it's gone, done and dusted and nothing can be changed.

just look to the future and look to how your team are maybe falling a little behind others and how they will deal with it... :hubbahubba:

  12. Robert the Bruce Battle of Bannockburn letter discovered

    _67945332_bruce-letter1.jpg

The document was written by Robert the Bruce of Scotland to Edward II of England

A copy of an unknown Robert the Bruce letter from the build-up to the Battle of Bannockburn has been discovered.

a copy?i hear shakespeare was a good forger...

  13. thanks for all the fine music ! RIP

and also a mention for Trevor Bolder, bassist of 'The Spiders From Mars' fame and who played with Uriah Heep on and off since 1976.

unsung musician and always fun to listen to when interviewed because of his Yorkshire roots was blunt,to the point and just said it as it was.

and not forgetting his fantastic sideburns which caused some trouble at times as he liked to use silver spray-paint on them whilst on-stage.

had roadies scouring the surrounding areas in search of lots of cans.

  14. I feel much the same way when I read that Ronnie Biggs still sees the Great Train Robbery as 'an adventure'. He's a criminal, pure and simple - I guess we can thank Guy Ritchie for making east-enders somehow 'charismatic'. I never considered the likes of the Krays as 'charismatic' ....

(yes, I know Biggs was born in Lambeth and spent a large chunk of his life in S America - for all that, he belongs with the Krays)

i don't have a major problem with Biggs.

a very low-level member of the criminal element at the time and got involved almost by accident.

the media made him into how he became to be perceived as a hero for fucking the establishment.

most of the gang were just petty criminals and they fucked up big-time in the end.

wrongly made into a hero along with several of the others but when it comes down to it their crime was an embarrassment to the hob-nobs at the time and they were certainly made an example of with their sentences.

much higher than would be expected and a bit odd compared to this day and age when violent murderers get a few years in jail.

i know one of the train staff was injured and never worked again but no compulsive evidence his death was a result of his being assaulted.

for years i used to see Buster Edwards selling flowers from his little spot outside Waterloo railway station and was quite a likeable guy and always up for a chat.

Ronnie is even more of an embarrassment to the establishment these days for his ability to get away with just about most things.

rightly or wrongly a kinda hero to many ordinary folks.

the Krays were totally different, pure evil and reigned over their 'enterprises' by using fear and mindless violence.

there are criminals and there are criminals but differences between them can be miles apart.

  15. Yep, that's a good one.

    Les Mis.

read the book when i was around 13/14 and seen most of the films and the stage show several times.

always a fave of mine and i enjoyed the film.

more you can do with a film then a stage show and i liked the way the cast sung 'live'without the big music behind them at the time, sounded much more rawer.

and a lot of it filmed in my area and i recognised a lot of places.
