dddave
During my Jan/Feb Thailand stay I'll be visiting a Thai woman in Udon Thani. I plan a 3 or 4 day trip into Laos since I'll be so close. If the lady friend should want to accompany me, should I expect any problems in Laos staying in Hotels with a woman I'm not married to. I know they don't necessarily share the Thai tolerance for such arrangements. Can a Thai cross the border into Laos without a passport? Thanks dj
bgtp
I took a lady friend from Thailand to Vientiene and Luang Prabang with me. No problems with hotels. Besides, how would they know whether or not you're married?
Hedonist
I have stayed in many cheap hotels in Laos with my Thai girlfriend. There was no problem. Thai citizens may get a one day pass at the border. But to stay longer they require a passport and a visa.
Guest
No problem with Thai girlfriend in Laos. I visited July 01 and Thai g/f needed visa for five night stay. Got it in one of the "visa shops" near the border crossing. Remember thinking it would have been better to organise visa in Bkk. If you have time, go to Luang Prabang. Nice place to relax. Stayed at a place called Calao Inn (I think). Fantastic location - first floor rooms have balcony overlooking the Mekong. Also look out for the Budha "park" in Nong Khai. That's certainly not it's name - any one with a guide book handy. Anyway, the park is full of some astonishing Budha's - worth a couple of hour sidetrip. ZMAN Z28
I have been to the park you talk about and it truly spectaular. I couldn't beleive how huge they were untill you acually see it. A must see indeed. Z
