Yes, India are a sure thing for the final now, unless Kenya pulls a miracle out of the bag.

Aussies v Sri Lanka tomorrow.. stay tuned. Still nervous. Has any team gone through a World Cup Tournament undefeated before? That's what we will have to do to win it.

48 run win under the D/L method.......Sri Lanka were never in it once Bichel superbly ran out De Silva and then the Lankans dropped to 76 for 7......even though Vaas and Sangakarra were still at the wicket, they were not going at 6 an over and would have lost by 30+ runs..

Good win to the Aussies and Sunday is looking like a top day to watch the cricket.

A few thoughts on the World Cup:

That St. Georges Park pitch is a disgrace. One day cricket is all about runs but on that pitch anything over 150 is a decent score. As much as a low scoring game can be exciting, chasing 340 and getting it wins hands down.

I said before the tournament started that the semis and final should best of three. Winning the toss or a rain delay could be the difference between winning and losing so why not play three games so the best team can emerge? It would certainly generate more revenue and excitement.

I'm not a fan of Gilchrist swinging at everything likes its the last few overs when he's opening. If he fails, like last night, it puts too much pressure or the lower order which so far has bailed us out but they can't always do it. You want an opener who's gonna get the team of to a good start so the other guys can swing hard when we've got wickets to spare.

What do you guys think?

Roppongi,

I agree the low scoring wicket has been hopeless and we have been unlucky to play 3 games on it! When chasing 200 all you need is a bit of luck (big hitting for 5 overs) and that can win you the game. I am with you that 250+ is the order of the day for 1 day games.

Finals best of 3? Nope, I like the cut throat approach.

The structure at the top is well defined and I like it. Gilchrist should be looking for the quick runs and Hayden should be playing the supportive role and looking to bat well into the innings. The problem at the moment is Hayden has been very very disappointing this tournament and that is what is causing the problems.

Best of three finals is used in every other 1day comp I can think of.. but haveing1 final puts a bit more pressure on the teams, therefore (hopefully) the best team will win.

I agree re: slow low scoring wickets.

As for Gilly. Remember, he used to bat at no. 7, and was promoted to opener as a "pinch hitter" to take advantage of the 1st 15 overs fielding restrictions, while not risking a specialist batsman. If this works every few games, it is worth it as he always scores quickly, be it a century, 50 or even 20 like last night. Although he has become a specialist batsman in his own right now. I say leave it as it stands.

Adam Gilchrist is the class act in the Australian team, for mine. No, I didnt enjoy his batting either, but when he voluntarily walked after mistakenly being declared 'Not Out', I stood up and applauded. How many players, under that sort of pressure, would be prepared to put sportsmanship ahead of the 'must-win-at-any-costs' ethos which has consumed top-level sport over the past 20 years ?

I could rant about his ability to back up a solid effort with the bat by spending hours crouched behind the wickets, looking for the slightest chance to send the opposition back to the dressing room early. Compare his quiet dedication to the likes of Shane Warne, and you'll see what I'm getting at.
