Torneyboy
Thailands current secondary education system is blocking students from developing real and usefull knowledge, say Thai students who have just won gold medals at the July International Chemistry Olympiad in Greece. Apichart Apaiwong from Samsen Wittayalai school said most secondary schools here were pushing students to learn theories by rote just so they could pass Uni entrance exams. Thanit Praneenararat from Assumption College said his love of science was personal and he never received any inspiration from his school. Well done to the 4 gold medal winners and hope for a great future for them . Mr Thanit said Mahidol Wittayanusorn was the countrys first science-oriented school which emphasised learning through experiments. However the school had to work very hard to secure a special admission quota for its students to further thier studies in universities. Chavida Netirojanakul from Triam Udom Suksa school said there was a real need to adjust the style of teaching and the UNI entrance system if Thai children were to be developed into capable scientists.
