chuckwoww
Siamese twins always seem to be big news stories....why? ::
Lusty
Morbid curiosity I suppose. Not far from where I live,in place called Biddenden(Kent UK)a famous pair lived for many years.I think they were called Ching and chang and were joined at the hip. sayjann
'Biddenden has many stories to tell but is best known for Elisa and Mary Chulkhurst who were joined at both shoulder and hip, at the age of thirty four (very old in the eleven hundreds) one of the twins died, the other refused to be separated from here sister saying "As we came together so we shall go together". Nobody is sure where they are buried but a charity set up by them for the poor of the parish does it's good work up to this very day'. come on Rusty, your a local lad, same as me. the history of the Biddenham twins is a very local one. before the days of the motorways in that part of the country, whenever i visiited Ashford we had to pass through Biddenham and normally stopped at the Pub in one of the most beautiful villages in God's own County. i think it is called 'The Two Maids' and the Pub sign was of the Ladies joined together. i think Ching and Chang were the Siamese twins born in old Siam in the 1800's and because of a lot more understanding about the condition, the name Siamese twins came into the English Language. if i'm wrong,i'm wrong. chuckwoww
found this website which pretty much covers everything... http://www.modcult.brown.edu/students/angell/siamese.html I guess there are lots of reasons for the interest. biological, ethical etc. and just wondering how they function.....apparently Cheng and his brother fathered 21 children... ::
