Parents Control over their siblings Children?

My wifes son lives with her parents in BKK.

The boy has just gone back today along with her Dad after a great visit.

My wife and i want him to come to my city in two years to attend high school...he is 10 years old now.

Her mom..has just said no!!

All a bit emotional i guess at the moment as he has been away from her for 10 days.

My question is what control do the parents have in this situation..i know many girls have children living with parents and or grandparents in LOS.

The boy is my wifes child if she wants him to come here to live/study why not?

This could become a problem/wedge with the family?

We however have let it be for now.

He Btw wants to and is very happy to come and learn English etc....also his mom is here.

Hi TB,

this isn't so easy to answer.

If her parents went to authorities explaining that your wife moved to an other country and they take care (maybe also support him financially), they may have an adminstrative decision that they are guardians of the boy. In that case you and your wife have small possibilites to bring him to Australia. Both her parents and probably also the father of the boy must approve before a passport can be issued.

You must investigate the legal situation and after that consult a thai lawyer.
