Colonel Montri Kosiyasathit, spokesman for the Immigration Bureau, said con men had promised entry visas and exit stamps to foreigners without the need for the passport-holder to actually travel in and out of Thailand. He said the Immigration Bureau had tightened its inspection procedures and found that some passports contained fake immigration entry and exit stamps, and in some cases, fake visa-extension stamps. Lt-General Chanvut Vajrabukka, immigration commissioner, has already ordered investigators to search for the issuers of the fake documents, including tour companies and other groups who prey on foreign visitors and residents. The spokesman warned foreign visitors not to believe claims or advertisements offering immigration documentation outside the proper channels because they could be deceived, and thereby end up collaborating in dubious activities. He said all foreigners must pass through designated immigration entry and exit points.
