Brother gets transplant with conditions

MANCHESTER, England, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- A British man agreed to a life-saving transplant for his brother on condition he support a different soccer team, the London Telegraph said Friday.

Paul Warburton, 59, required a stem-cell transplant to battle lymphatic leukemia, the newspaper said. He was an ardent supporter of the Citys soccer club.

His brother Martin, 50, was found to be the only suitable donor for the transplant, and immediately offered to make the donation - but only if his brother signed a legal contract promising to switch soccer allegiance to Manchester United.

The contract stipulated Paul should join the Manchester United FC Supporters' Association and sign up to the club's television channel, MUTV.

He is also required to repaint his house in red hues and "amend" his wardrobe to include mostly red clothes, the team colors.

Paul, who is recovering, said he may have a legal "out."

"This is clearly torture," he said, "and torture is banned under the Human Rights Act."
