CAR & DRIVER WANTED: Poi Pet, Saturday 21st

BTW , a decent hire car would have cost 1400B plus petrol & PAI, so between us, I think we came out in front, moneywise, as Poi Pet is a 650Km round trip from Suk.

To Dan and Blackie,

Thanks for the info on Poi Pet. I just got back from my first visa run. You left out one thing, though, that might be useful information to some. The casinos. There are 5 there, and I made the mistake of popping in to one of em as soon as I crossed. My mistake was in winning. $800.00(U.S.) aint exactly a fortune by my standards, but it made me a bit of a target. I was the only farang in the place, and sort of stood out like a sore thumb. I was advised not to leave the casino, and told by the casino security that walking around outside might be suicide. I hired a small contingent and made it back to Thailand without seeing anything of Poi Pet. crazy.gif" border="0

kohchaiBKK,

thanks for the tip, although I've never been inside a casino in my sheltered life.

I must get out more.

I'll just get my coat. laugh.gif" border="0

PS. How did you get to PoiPet?

Blackie,

I got a bit lucky and got a free trip door to door. I use a Thai stockbroker. When I told her I was going to make a visa run to Poi Pet, she told be that she had a wealthy customer that goes there just about every other week to gamble. She called him on my behalf, and I got a seat in the van.

While the 8 others, all Thai, drove right up to the casino without even having to show their passports, I had to be let off to pass through passport control to get my documentation done. I was the only one that had to pay 1,000 baht for the visa and 100 baht for the same-day tax.

I owe them. They're the guys that arranged for the bodyguard protection from the casino to the Thailand side, where the van was waiting.

I'm guessing you're a week ahead of me for your next visa run. Keep in touch. Unlike you, I've never met a casino I could pass by. I'd be interested in going back, and would feel a bit more comfortable if I were not alone.

P.S.-The casino was okay. Food, drink and cigarettes all free while you are gambling, and they put out the red carpet. Mostly baccarat and roulette, but blackjack, slots, caribbean stud and pai gow as well.

While they did their gambling in a V.I.P. room that only had roulette and baccarat, I had to hit the public area for the blackjack and pai gow. It was there that my large stack of chips was exposed to too many eyes.
