TEFL International?

Has anybody on the board obtained TESOL certification through TEFL International? I scanned their website and then sent in an e-mail requesting some program-specific information and their reply made me cringe. Just look at some of these excerpts:

 

"The program is know as PELT The Practical English Language Teaching (PELT) TESOL Certificate By TEFL International A Internationally-recognized Course with Inputs by some of ESL?s leaders all for only $400 (Valid for a limited period)"

 

Hmm...they're offering TESOL certification and yet they apparently don't know how to use articles, capitalisation, and punctuation.

 

"A great way to start a TESOL Certification Program while we place you to a School and you earn Baht 15,000 each month for a two months Internship position and get materials, Instructions, DVD and Courseware from us to complete your PELT TESOL course self access. So actually you earn 30,000 baht and spend 16,000 Baht for the TESOL Certification in two months. Isn?t is a great way to earn and learn at the same time !!"

 

Uh...right. Double "exclamation points" do not a "question mark" make.

 

"After two months of Internship, and while you complete your course with us, you have an experience teaching Thai students and then you are qualified TESOL Teacher also (requirement for Thai Ministry of Education to be a English Teacher and working legally in Thailand) you can negotiate and continue with the school you had your internship or may shift to any other school with better offer."

 

"...to be a English Teacher..."? "...shift to any other school with better offer..."? Dear Lord...what a mess. Is this kind of unprofessionalism a hallmark of the EFL business in Thailand?

 

The so-called "program head" of this PELT program should go through his own organisation's course, or perhaps back to grade school. Cripes!
