keekwai
When I use the partition in question I never access my main partition. That's what got me to wondering why the same OS on two different partitions would be kind of noisy on one but normal sounds on the other. The sounds aren't horrible kind of makes me think of a needle bouncing back and forth on a gauge. The other partitions I mentioned include a separate partition with a DriveImage backup of my OS and third party software after a clean install. Then there is a data partition for personal data which I backup to cd on a regular basis (this is also the default location for the My Documents folder which I changed using Tweak UI. So pics, documents are all on the data partition. Four partitions. Main XP Pro installation, DriveImage backup, data partition, 2nd XP Pro instillation. keekwai
"I'd just wipe the whole damn thing and start over" That is my fall back plan but I'd rather put it off and maybe get some kind of clue as to what's going on. May be able to prevent it from occuring again in the future.
keekwai
This hard drive is only six months old I wouldn't mind getting a little more mileage out of it.
