pattaya127
WTF! I read that yesterday, some lawmakers are trying to introduce a law that will not only outlaw suggestive dancing, but forbid couple to display affection by kissing in public places. What the hell is that puritanism sweeping thru SEA these days? A bit scary even if that did not pass, just to dream up such curtailing.

chilli13
cum'on dude it's a muslim country for gods sake anyways if you've been there to any extent you's notice that indonesians & especially jakartians aren't particularly shy about touching each other or more & very unlikely to change their easygoing sexual attitude just because of some lame law proposal... LOS on the other hand is a real 'respectable' country where all such immoral things are kept behind closed doors or best forgotten altogether - still love the place & back in less than a month
Nervous_Dog
Have you got the news link for this? I thought it was some region of Malaysia. Yep - the area is getting very puritan, they are obviously reading Nanaplaza.com and have decided that if we can be so moralistic, then so can they be! adikgede
This Bill drew a lot of public criticism when it was introduced and seeing how it will likely come up for discusssion around election time I cant see it making much progress this year. Keep in mind that for years we had a law that required that gatherings of six or more required a police permit, but that didn't stop people from having birthday parties. Asian values means no pubic intimacy but behind closed doors anything goes. If the bill did come to pass it might change the way Dangdut is performed in public, but maybe not. Many concerts are in stadiums so maybe they would just call it Dangdut sports:) The criminalisation of sex parties might rub some of the upwardly mobile the wrong way but I doubt much would change. In general many parts of Indonesia are very permissive. Issues like morals get alot of lip service from time to time but even if new laws come to pass I don't fancy them being enforced. This was in the Jakarta Post: Bill on Acts of Pornography Article 32 (1) Showing genitals in public is punishable by five years in jail or a Rp 250 million fine. Article 33 (1) Appearing naked in public is punishable by six years in jail or a Rp 300 million fine. Article 34 (1) Kissing on the mouth in public is punishable by five years in jail or a Rp 250 million fine. Article 35 (1) Performing erotic dances in public places is punishable by five years in jail or a Rp 250 million fine. Article 37 (1) Sex in a public place is punishable by 10 years in jail or a Rp 500 million fine. Article 38 (1) Organizing sex shows is punishable by 10 years in jail or a Rp 1 billion fine. (2) Organizing sex parties is punishable by three years in jail or a Rp 1 billion fine. Article 39 (1) Watching sex shows is punishable by two years' jail or a Rp 100 million fine. gobbledonk
Thanks, Adik. As I said in a recent post, this is the kind of up-to-date info that I come to Regional Sanuk for. Even if its not particularly uplifting, anything that stops us treading on Asian toes in public is a good thing. 3 weeks until my Indonesian GF arrives in Brissie, BTW. 3 weeks, 3 weeks, 3 weeks, 3 weeks .... er, where was I ? adikgede
Sex parties used to be advertised in Pos Kota. Otherwise you need an invitation.
SingaporeSteve
"Article 33 (1) Appearing naked in public is punishable by six years in jail or a Rp 300 million fine." That reminded me when sitting in McDonalds at Robinson in Sukhumvit on a Saturday lunchtime gazing out of the window looking at all the cute shop girls and mostly ugly bar girls that a Thai Guy walked straight along the street completely naked :: - I had to look twice to believe my own eyes but sure as anything he was walking past the entrance to the Westin without a thing on. Funny thing is that nobody seemed in the least bit concerned by this :: Cheers
