Sukhumvit
I've heard that there is a "proper" bike shop in Ptty. Directions given were: Up Central Rd to Sukhumvit Highway, then the guy said something about looking for the second set of traffic lights, doubling back and finding the Naklua Rd. Bit vague. But will have a wander around in the next few days. Curious to see what they've got. The guy I spoke to was on a Giant Racer which he said he picked up in Chiang Mai. elef
Hi, depending of course where you stay in Pattaya. But as Naklua Rd is the continuation of 2nd Rd, just pass the roundabout in the intersection with Central Pattaya Rd and you're on Naklua Rd. elef
CDN
Thank you, everyone, for your contributions. I think that I will spend a bit more on a good-quality bike since I don't fancy wiping out on the road and having gravel scars that I will be able to show my great-grandkids. If you do find that proper bicycle shop, Sukhumvit, please let me (us?) know. Cheers, CDN
Guest
The problem is not so much the quality of the bike, but in the set up. Brush up on your bike maintenence before you leave. If you buy too nice a bike, what will you do with it when you leave?
whosyourdaddy
The high end bikes are very good value here. A few of my workmates have been buying hi end bikes here ( 20-60,000B) and sold them off (a year later+ ) and made a profit back in England. Might want to take a look into it. There are also some excellent bike trails up in Saraburi, khorat etc. (websites availaible with details) Worth a look if you are interested in biking. CDN
60,000 B for a bike??? 2,400 USD? You must be kidding. Buy a bike at that price, and then re-sell it FOR A PROFIT? Lord Thunderin' Jesus, I must be in the wrong business. -CDN
Guest
Certainly there are savings to be had at Probike. Though, the bikes aren't always the same spec and arranging to get the bicycle back to the UK could be a pain in the neck.
Sukhumvit
The Dolphin Roundabout is the intersection you mean? Yeah, that's Pattaya North Rd that goes up to the Air Con bus station to Bkk and leads to Suk Highway. Had a look up around that area yesterday but couldn't find it. The old bloke I spoke to gave me fairly detailled, albeit vague, directions which involved going up the Central Rd from Beach Rd to the Highway then farting around a lot. If it cools down a little today may have another scout around. (Side note: for Harley Davidson fans, there's another Harley specialist up on 3rd Rd, leading from Ptty Nth Rd to Ptty Central Rd, on the left side, same side as Carrefour/opp side to Pattaya Sports Club/Driving Range. Called Western Bikes. Coupled with the Harley shop on the right side of the hill to Jomtien, Double V? and the Harley shop in Jomtien on the left as the road bends around going into Jomtien from Ptty and the Harley Hirer on Walking St, that makes for a lot of Harleys. Wonder what they're doing with them all? Riding them I suppose.)
whosyourdaddy
Yes one guy at work is talking about buying the new Trek. Something like B150,000+ for the bike. I just shook my head. That is one hell of a lot of taxi rides!
