MooNoi
Kloster is my favourite beer in Thailand. I know it is brewed in Thailand, but no one has been able to tell me whether it is or isn't European in origin? (i.e. Brewed under licence). The bottle certainly "looks" European, and it mentions a place called "Neustadt" on the bottle. Is Kloster in fact a European beer, available in Europe, or is it just a Thai beer pretending to be European? Also, is it available in any other countries apart from Thailand that you've seen? Fly P. elef
Hi FlyP, there's a Kloster-Brauerei Neustadt bottle cap If the thai Kloster beer is an exact copy the brauerei must have gone bankruptcy a long time ago! As I said in the news forum thread kloster is the german word for monastery so it's included in many beer brands. Neustadt makes me even more suspicious as that's german for new town. As the kloster beer in thailand is just piss the german connection must be a fake! elef
MooNoi
Thanks, Elef! Had a look at that website for the bottle caps. There's one exactly the same as the Thai Kloster (the 10th cap down) except the colours are different. So is "Neustadt" a town in Germany? I don't know if this bottle cap is from an old version of the Thai Kloster or maybe the original Kloster in Germany that isn't made anymore??? Even the lion on the bottle top looks the same. Fly P. MooNoi
Actually, just found the following websites: Kloster 1 Kloster 2 One says its "a fake" and the other says "brewed under close supervision of the Kloster Brauerei"... I guess we'll never know! Just wish I could buy it in Australia! ::

Mentors
yes' it' were German brewers who started to make the Kloster Thailand.
