Tourism specialists agree: Phuket getting ugly

Hmm.. let's see..

 

#1, Fjords of Norway. Cold wind, freezing salt spray, expensive accomodation, etc..

 

#3 from bottom, Phuket. Beaches, tropical breezes, beautiful women, delicious inexpensive food, etc..

 

I've been both places. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder.

Maybe I expressed myself unclear. I was praising Phuket - nice family place. Unfair to compare to whatever exotic places "in" now. Destinations depend on if you are looking for - a family holiday, or alone.

 

As for the fjords in Norway? Dunno. I never go there. Spitsbergen - recommended though.

It's certainly getting expensive. Was glancing at one of those international real estate mags just yesterday. Published in the states and to appeal to the well heeled. They've got a building plot in Phuket for $3 million. Talking about paradise, beaches, international schools yadda yadda but no mention of that little technicality concerning farang ownership of land.

This was a good wake up call for Phuket. Certainly there are aspects of the island that need improvement and too much land has been ruined by greedy developers.

 

On the other hand, as one sits with a drink watching the sun go down into the western sea, the island continues to retain some magical qualities.

 

I like living down here. We have an international airport plus two international class hospitals. Also a couple of marvelous golf links e.g. Blue Canyon. Even having a Big C and a Tesco/Lotus makes life easier for us farangs.

 

Life is very comfortable but more expensive than in other parts of the kingdom. Perhaps that's why so many rich farangs want to own have villas down here.

 

Any suggests on how we can improve things on Phuket are always welcomed by our very able governor and local authorities.
