Central Scrutinizer
Jasmine, I for one would love to see some Thai writings on farang and how they are percieved from a Thai POV. Old or new. Fire away! Cent

Guest
I have just a little bit of insights on what Koreans thought of the first westerners. When the first ships arrived, Koreans were somewhat astonished to see these large, burly creatures with with hairy arms, large beards, and blue eyes. Early westerners quickly wore out their welcome by their insistence to convert the masses to Christianity which threatened the whole heirarchy and structure of the country and the gates of korea closed to the west for a long time. Even to this day, westerners are regarded as barbarians in some ways. For instance, Asians are somewhat astonished at the enthusiasm of westerners to take a big serrated knife and saw at a big chunk of red beef (that's steak to us).
