buddha
I don't post this link as a 'suggestion' to help prisoners more as a curiosity...... http://www.phaseloop.com/foreignprisoners/prisoners-thailand.html Just one of those things you come across online and surf through for an hour or two. Zaad
Name: Machiel Kuijt Country: Dutch Sentence: 6 years Age: 36 as of 2004 Building: #1 Notes: Has protested his innocence since 1997 - Inmate has now been transfered to BangKwang Prison after unsuccessful appeal gave him life sentence. Wasn't this Dutch guy transferred to a Dutch prison to serve his time in his homecountry after a meeting between the Dutch queen and Thai king? They need to update their info. Weird site though, had no idea of the existance of such sites.
Guest
If anyone is thinking abnout visiting prisoners, I've read that the prisons have tightened up on random visits by farangs just showing up. Something to do with films like "Brokedown Palace" giving prisons a bad image (Shock!). Previously, you could just show up and ask to visit a farang or American or whatever, but apparently now you need to have a name in mind, maybe even a refeernce from the prisoner's embassy here. Check with your own embassy for the latest information.
NongSung
Hi Zaad, Pedro Ruyzing & George O. were released earlier this year. Machiel Kuijt is still there... NongSung
whosyourdaddy
Most embassies wont give that information out. It is against the privacy act of many countries. I have called a few acouple of years back and got these results.
Guest
If you want to visit a farang in prison, just go to the prison. There are several farangs visiting farangs. You can visit the ones they are visiting but hopefully they can tell you of some falangs that get no visitors. I highly reccommend everybody to go and see first hand what a Thai prison is like. the_numbers
MM's point is well taken. I think personally a Bang Kwang visit or the like is an experience that is infinitely human, and harrowing A bleak experience and gives one a bit of perspective. The kind that says - don't get caught doing anything naughty here... of course this doesn't include getting piss drunk and jacked up on viagra, or waving your ass around lower Suk I might add that the least you could do is bring a bit of decent food from a stand in Nonthaburi, a magazine, or something to the person that you don't know. They'll be infinitely appreciative of any gesture. Cheers, the_numbers
Guest
Yes, I agree. In fact, there are a select number of Board Members whom I would definitely want seeing the inside of a Thai prison.
