northerner
Theoretically I should be able to acquire either a non-immigrant O or a non-immigrant B visa. If I have a B I can then obtain a work permit. Can I obtain a work permit if I enter on an O? Which path would you recommend? Is a 12 month O easier to come by than a B? Guest
northerner-- As I understand it (and I have done) you should get a "B" (Business) visa at a Thai diplomatic mission overseas first, then you go about acquiring your work permit... The "O" (Other) is for things such as spouse, retiree, etc. Fellow posters am I correct??? --UPSer
Guest
there are other a bit more unusual nonimms, it all depends on the kind of profession you want to get a workpermit for. sometimes embassies won't give you a nonimm even if you have the necessary documentation, in that case immigration can change your tourist visa into an nonimm. happened to me. ask the next thai embassy. Guest
flyonzewall-- Are you referring to the Non-Imms for things like religion/sports/research etc?? --UPSer
Guest
my profession needs a different non-imm. please excuse me if i don't really want to go into too much detail here, but it's none of the things you mentioned.
northerner
I have a Thai wife so presumably I can get a Non-immigrant O. Or I could find someone to give me a letter to get a Non-immigrant B. If I get the O can I then apply for a work permit or do I HAVE TO have the B type first? Guest
if you don't have already all the papers i would not go in on a nonimm B on spec. you might yourself in the situation that you can't get another one when you need it. it's better to go in on a nonimm O, and get out again when you have the necessary papars for an nonimm B. Guest
northerner: Here's the webage from the Consulate General of Thailand in Los Angeles.. It's pretty good at outlining the requirements for each type of "class" of visa [b, F, O-A, R, O, etc] and what you need to do. http://www.thai-la.net/non-im.htm --UPSer PS: still a bit puzzeled by flyonzewall's secretive visa class [ December 30, 2001: Message edited by: UPSer ]
northerner
Thank you sir, that appears to be just what I need - and I see I can get one kind and then change it to the other in Thailand if I'm qualified to do so.
