Have not tried this (not married) but worth a look...

EU law for married couples:

http://158.169.50.75/cgi-bin/fsprint.cgi,

explains why the local embassy can't stop EU nationals married to Thais from taking their wifes/children to the UK for visit. Visa should be free and quick, someone tell the Bkk embassy!

If members of your family are not EU nationals, the Member State(s) to or through which you intend to travel may require an entry visa, depending on their nationality. This visa will be granted free of charge and without undue formalities by the competent consulate authorities.

Your family is defined as your spouse, your children aged under 21 (or dependent on you), your spouse's children, and your parents and your spouse's parents if they are dependent on you.

Non-EEA family members who would normally require a visa to travel to the United Kingdom should obtain an EEA family permit if they are coming to the United Kingdom to visit you or if they are accompanying you to the United Kingdom for a visit. The EEA family permit is a form of entry clearance (like a visa) issued free of charge for the purpose of allowing your non-EEA family members to travel to the United Kingdom.

The entry clearance officer may then be able to decide your application without further enquiries. However, you may have to attend an interview, and in addition you may be asked for further documents. In any case, your application be decided as a matter of priority, and without undue delay, in all cases.

Greg Not exactly that easy if you are a UK citezen. You are not a EEA member in the UK. Special bit of EU legislation for Britain. If you were resident in for example Germany but a UK passport holder then no problem. Though you would have them in Germany and then have to get a visa for the UK!!

BTW are you the Greg who was recently in Bangkok??
