coops
You can legally buy a car in thailand. This is a legal fact, however .... While you may legally be able to, the officals you'll be dealing with may not know that you are allowed to... or they may know but..... lets just say i have bought two cars and you don't need a work permit etc, these do make life a lot easier though :-) the first dealer i used simply ended up giving two bottles of Johnny Walker Black to get it done - less hassle for all. Obviously it helps to have a good thai friend, even better if they have contacts in the transport offices, chuckle chuckle. PS i even had some minor hassle getting my condo registered etc, even though this too is perfectly legal. pps even more amusingly - while you can buy a car, and you can buy a condo, you can not buy a mobile phone in your name without a work permit. hilarious. cheerio
Guest
Thanks for the info, in fact I did buy a car in my name last week and, of course, I only have a tourist visa. The dealer assured me that it would not be a problem and it wasn't, my name is in the blue book just like it is supposed to be.
