Regarding Press Censorship

"The US really doesn't give a hoot about democracy in the ME.

THe US is concerned about getting cheap fuel to run its economy and maintain its economic dominance."

Zorro: This is the standard rhetoric taught in american universities as well. All actions by the US are solely for its self interests and all US policy is evil capitalism at its worst.

What people ignore are the facts. Iraq is a good case in point. After the conventional war in iraq was over, there were hundreds, maybe even more than a thousand aid agencies all lined up to do everything imaginable to help iraqis develop their country.

There were agencies for education, some specialized in providing textbooks, others teachers and others to build the schools. Medical care, vaccinations, drugs. Clean water, agricultural assistance, manufacturing. You had judges who went to help write a constitution and police to organize basic police services. Also obscure stuff like how to perform bookkeeping and customer service. The list is endless.

Its easy to ignore the above because stories about it in the media are not as interesting as stories on haliburton overcharging for fuel contracts. Also stories about the massive aid lined up by the citizens of the US and the thousands and thousands of americans trying to help iraq achieve something beyond a brutal dictatorship does not match the anti-american ideology. Idealogues are famous for ignoring facts that don't support their theory.

Now someone will come along and say that the above activities are all designed to help the US gain control. This is natural because the prevalent anti-americanism demands such an interpretation.
